Wheel bearings
« on: August 18, 2016, 11:07:31 am »
Apparently there are 2 sizes of wheel bearings for my 55 plate. How do I know which one I need?

I think the only way is to remove and measure as there was no standard size fitted for specific models etc

Is this for front wheel bearings?
I did mine recently, they come in a bolt on housing.
There are two types:
One has 3 mounting bolts
Later type has 4 mounting bolts

Jack car up and loom at back of hub where driveshaft goes into the hub.
You will see the 3 or 4 bolts,
Then you know which one to order :)

Hope this helps.

Hi mate.

If you are talking about the internal diameter -  I had to swap a bearing a while ago, and got the wrong size the first time. Unfortunately I cant remember whether it was the 30 or the 32mm that was right. I got told that even with vin numbers etc, you cant know which yours has. However, afterwards I searched posts and it seemed that a few people with a GTI was one size. It made me think that the diameter varies between the mkv platform (R32, GTD etc.)opposed to varrying between GTIs. But then again I only saw a handfull of examples. Ill search my posts to try and.find the right size
