After Advice Mkv GTI DSG
« on: August 19, 2016, 12:35:23 pm »
Hi All,

After some advice.

I have a MKV GTI  DSG recently done a service etc on the car and noticed that the engine seems a bit tappy on tick over oil is at the right level used 5W 30.

Not sure if it is possibly a sticky tappet or something has anyone experience similar before or have any advice ?

Thanks

Ben

You need 5/40 as it's thicker and will give the gave less tap or parts will wear out quicker.

Is it when the engine is cold or hot ? 5/30 is just as thick as 5/40 when cold but when hot 5/40 is thicker.
Think if you're on fixed schedule 5/40 is recommended and 5/30 for variable but I've never been a huge fan of variable schedules on any car.
But right from the year dot golf engines have been a bit tappy when compared to engines from the land of the rising sun.

It is a bit of both, is ok when under load driving but is on tick over sometimes is louder than others. possibly just me being over cautious after being in new cars constantly for 9 years.

May be worth changing to 5/40 then by thye sounds of it ??

I'd say try the 5/40 as I use this in mine and it's not overly loud on idle tick over  :happy2: and it doesn't burn like the 5/30 does and needs topping up all the time. I top mine up every couple of months now with about 500ml
