Car tracker systems

Getting more and more concerned seeing endless stolen cars popping up on Facebook and plenty of them tend to be GTI's....  Thinking of a tracker system before its too late..

Anyone got one installed or can anyone recommend one?

Is it worth stealing a nearly 10 year old car?

Seems pointless to me. Plenty more bigger fish for thieves to catch.

I'd agree, it tends to be the latest stuff - mk7 R, RS3 etc.

You could always secrete a spare phone somewhere in the car kept alive off 12v, with a 'find my phone' GPS thing installed.

Concentrate on not getting it stolen - visible deterrent is the thing.  Make the thief steal another car and then you don't need to worry about tracking it

It is hard to baypass immo on the latest stuff. Need knowledge and expensive stuff, for mk5 based cars immo can be baypassed with the equipment from china for 100 bucks in few min. The main reason people don't put any alarm on the cars, keeps only OEM. Put any adittional immo pendant/card type to the car and you are secured. On my road only I have aditional alarm and immo system fitted, I'm keeping RNS without trims, screws in my car. It gives very nice good morning on windy night at whole street

Also it depends on the area to what makes get nicked a lot. Round my way Fords with keyless entry have a big problem of getting nicked especially fiestas as they are so easy to break into.

There was an article the other day on BBC news app and VW have admitted a flaw with the security of its cars up until cars of 2015 onwards (this was found by a company that tries to hack systems and works alongside car manufacturers). I'm sure this is an issue with all brands.

Overall my opinion is if someone wants the car that badly, no matter how much extra security you put on it, they will take it.

I never knew people still bothered stealing Mk  5's. I guess you learn something new everyday

I guess each to their own...  I don't think the year of  the car is a factor on if it's worth nicking if it's a nice car that ticks their boxes in the first place..

I had a tracker on my R1 bike and had a tracker system sticker on it and I think it's off-putting to any tempted thief at the end of the day but yeah if they want it bad enough they will take it..

As for people not nicking mk5's...  A video got shared on a mk5 Facebook group of a stolen Edition 30 crashing into a car with a woman and child in it and the thieves casually walking away from the scene...

Have one of these Diskloks too - but in yellow, so very, very visible!
Brought for another car when working away from home, and parking in hotel car parks/dark streets too often.
Use it always now, as a matter of habit really; very quick and easy to use.

Not that my car is particularly worth nicking, just a right-royal pia if your car does go, particularly a modified car with expensive aftermarket parts that are very easily/quickly shifted on, and practically untraceable...

IMHO no value what-so-ever in a mobile phone/GSM based tracker in very many parts of the UK - the phone in your hand won't work (no service at all where I live!) never mind one well hidden inside your car!
