Picked the S3 up on Friday and I have to say I was blow away with the level Dale had achieved. I could list all the steps taken but I will just let the pictures speak for themselves...

Thanks for looking

S3 Sprint Blue - Build Thread *Calipers Refurbished*
« Reply #33 on: October 13, 2016, 10:54:54 am »
I have been busy with the S3 over the last few weeks so think its time for an update...

Firstly I followed suit as I had done with the Golf and did away with the rear wiper thanks to 'killallwipers' I think the S3 was crying out for it even more with how angular the rear hatch is. Looks a lot smoother now.

Next on my list was to give the calipers a much needed refurb. The fronts were not too bad but the rears and hubs were in poor state for the vehicles age. I used E-Tech high temp paint for this and opted for a matt gunmetal finish to tie in with the front and rear splitters.

The caliper decals came as a set of 6 oddly but I only used the 2 larger ones for the front calipers. I pondered what to do with the excess stickers and thought I would try the medium ones out on the rather plain seats. I think they look quite oem personally.

Nothing really planned now with the build up to Christmas. Will just be trying my best to maintain and protect the paintwork. Then will start to look at performance gains in the new year  :driver:

Thanks for looking  :happy2:

Certainly an improvement, Nit picking but did you prepare the rear calipers before painting them?

I can still see all the flaky paint on your pictures, It looks like you have just painted directly onto the old corroded area without sanding it down first?

Thanks for the comments guys! Did my first wash since the paint correction on Saturday. Only took me 3 hours lol  :stupid:

One tip I did take from the detailer though was to use Carpro Reload afterwards which contains silicon. Rain just sheets away now!

Didn't see your comment sorry fella. My dremel decided to explode in the middle of cleaning the last rear caliper. Put the colour on regardless to stop it getting any worse but like a doughnut I took a photo of the crappier caliper . I will revisit it once I've replaced the dremel.

Fair play, Handy little tools dremels but the motors don't take too much punishment LOL.

Sprint Blue looks very nice! :)

Calipers look great, really need to do mine!

How many tins of paint did you require for all four? Will get some ordered.  :happy2:

One can dude! I used E-TECH XHT High temp paint. I even have some left for when I re-do the one rear caliper.

Little update:

I hadn't planned anymore modifications heading into Christmas but I just couldn't resist the 'urge to splurge' after a few good wins with the bookies!  :pomppomp:

After mooching around ebay for an 'RS3 style' grill I had to decide which finish I wanted as there are quite a few different variations. I opted for the gloss black grill with aluminium surround. I went for this finish rather than the chrome surround as its a little less 'flash' in my opinion and I think I made the right decision.

Grill came quickly via Parcel Force and I set up camp in a corner of my companies warehouse Friday night...

As it stood

Bumper off and center of the slam panel coated in matt black

Grills swapped over (This was more of a pain than removing the front bumper!

Back on and looking mean

All in it took me around 3 hours at a leisurely pace with a few tea breaks to warm up as I'm used to being in the office (The warehouse was blooming freezing!)

The grill does have the removable number plate bracket, I just wanted to enjoy the grill in all its glory on the way home. Toying with the idea of a vinyl front plate under the passenger headlight.....?

Only other thing to do now is remove the RS3 badge and replace with a new S3 badge ordered. I will also remove the lower central splitter and the fog covers so I can give them a dusting of gloss black to further tie in the front grill.

Thanks for reading

Sheesh, hope you're not keeping the RS3 badge, don't be an A6/RS6 ricer. Don't be 'that guy'

Should've got the black surround, would've bounced off the Sprint blue a treat.

P.S. glad you sourced an OEM one though, the XenonzUK ones can be desperate since every 1.6 tdi has them
