New noise time! This time gearbox?

Looking for some advice on a random noise my 06 GTI has developed.

I noticed the other day when cruising at around 20-30 odd miles an hour, I was getting an oscillating noise from the car, not consistent with the revs - just stays the same. Sounds a bit like it's coming from the drivers side, but I can't be certain. The noise was still present at idle however, ruling out any tyre/wheel problems.
It seems to go away at speed, but is especially noticeable at lower speeds, or when letting off the accelerator. This is also accompanied by a lot of vibration from the clutch pedal and almost like a clutch slip when pulling away, but could also be the pedal pulling away from me - hard to tell.

The cars booked in for a new clutch and DMF on the 19th, but these noises are making me worried it could be the gearbox on the way out

If its still there when not moving then I doubt it will be the box etc. Sounds highly likely to be the DMF to me.

That's what I'm hoping!
When it's going through its noisy moments, the clutch feels almost crunchy? Does this sound a bit like a DMF?
Hard to tell if the clutch is pulling away, or I'm getting clutch slip tbh, but I know I'm likely to get a bit of clutch slip when pulling away if the DMF is on its last legs.

Update:
I've had the clutch and flywheel replaced, but after a few days, the noise has returned.

Interestingly, it doesn't seem to appear if I boot it, but if I'm driving normally, it's there, particularly around 2-3k.

Anyone any the wiser?

I've just had the same issue that you've got. Mine was a mixture of things. 2 wheel bearings gone, but biggest problem was my gearbox. Basically the laith shaft bearing eats into the casing, causes play in and out. I had mine shimmed new bearing and my friend (repairs gearboxes for a living) modified the box and physically secures the outer part of the bearing to stop it happening again! Puts a bigger roll pin in the diff to! But sadly box in my situation

Also you were getting clutch slip because under load the laith shaft moves in and release pressure from the plate!

Dare I ask how much this cost you?
I've been quoted about £350-£400 for a gearbox refurb locally, but not sure what that entails, although they said it sounded like a shaft of some description.

I paid £400 all in. But that included a lot of modification to my box to prevent future failure. Diff roll pin, all new bearing as needed, now it's smooth as silk and super quiet! Where are you logistically?

It's ok I've just seen. Nottingham, your not a million miles from me in Northampton. I'd recommend my friend Steve at the Gearbox Centre, and not because I know him, because he will go above and beyond to make sure the box never comes back to him and never fails again!
