Saying hello.
« on: August 27, 2016, 03:43:03 pm »
So I've been lurking for awhile, decided now is the time to introduce myself and my golf!
Took me a few weeks to get it sorted as when I got it I knew it needed some love. But bodywork is what I do for a living so it was never going to be a drama!
So the car came to me needing some tlc, paint was tiered, coilovers were knackered, clutch wasn't great, you get the idea, and this is how it looked when I first got it...

So after some tlc which included...

Full gear box rebuild
Clutch, dual mass and a slave
New OE shocks
New lowering springs
R8 coilpacks
Service
New cam follower
Miltek cat back system
Wheels refurbed
New tyres
New discs and pads
X2 wheel bearings
New front splitter
Number plates
And a dam good polish!!

And here it is now....

Wow that's looking FRESH compared to before - Top effort! Must say, despite my car being in black, I'm a big fan of the Tornado red.... Got a lot of time for the wheels back to silver as well

Thanks for that, I've done the wheels in a colour called "glass chrome" it's stunning especially in the sunlight!
Must say I like tornado red also, I like all the colours but I just like the red!
I knew whatever golf I purchased would need a certain amount of tlc so decided on this one and got stuck in! Over Christmas I think I repaint it, sort a few dents out etc! Next is good stuff, xenons, nav etc maybe a bit more power...

Thanks mate, the pictures probably make it look better than it is, but I'd like to think I've rescued this one from something far worse! But getting back to health slowly but surely

You just can't beat a red 3 door. Should make a very good example, sounds like it's in good hands.

I'd like to think it's in good hands! I'm debating mapping or not etc, do I want more power etc, yes, do I want a money pit.... Not sure! I've got VRS round the corner from me who are big with the VW racing parts and APR, plus it's edition 38 next weekend so time will tell. I'll probably put it apart at Christmas-new year break and paint it again me thinks! Needs a few bits sorting still, but mechanically I've got it bang on now! I'd like to fit the multi function wheel controls and Bluetooth etc, just my head spins about what to do next!!

In my experience, if you've got it running nicely now then enjoy it for a while as it is but get a plan together in your head at the same time. It'll save you money if you decide how much power you want ultimately, fit the hardware in one go then get the map. Of course it doesn't always go that way, I only ever had Stage 1 in mind, but once that was done I wanted more. I'm now Stage 2, wanting more, and will inevitably end up going for a bigger turbo at some point!

I'm actually staying away from tuning for a bit and concentrating on a few cosmetic bits and a nice audio install. Then maybe coilovers. Then definitely more power!

Not sure how far you are from me but I can always help with cosmetics as its what I do for a living!
I'd probably want to stay sensible power wise being front wheel drive and all! I say that now... But said that with a few of my cars and ending up going big!
What is the AXX good for on standard internals? People have said ko4 conversion etc as I can do all the work myself, but is it going to become a "naughty child" if you know what I mean! Plus I don't ever get to drive far enough, had this with my S3 etc, got/had the power, never used it! I live 2.3 miles from work!

I'm in North Notts/South Yorks.

The cosmetics is more things like Xenons and ed30 rear lights than actual paintwork though!

The AXX and BWA are both safe up to about 370lb/ft, but it's really important that the map is good. I use R-Tech for my mapping, they've done loads of k04 conversion maps, as well as being the main mappers of the Beach Buggy Turbos k03 hybrids which is definitely a consideration for me. Revo also are reliable for a k04 swap. You need to have a good balanced hardware setup too, good flow and no weak link or bottleneck.

I also live a stone's throw from work, but I make sure it gets a good drive at least twice a week. Not just thrashing it everywhere, but plenty of time up to temperature in general. And the odd thrash..

I've got a brand new set of xenon headlights that I'm going to be selling if they are any good to you? I can grab some pictures if you like? They are just the units so you'd need to get bulbs and ballasts. But complete and new. Pm me if your interested. They are still boxed etc

Appreciate the offer mate but I'm on hold with spending right now as I might be looking at a bit of a bill soon. Although it could be absolutely nothing, but I can't risk spending till I'm 100% sure. Details here if you fancy a long read....

http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=108488.msg1050653.msg#1050653

But once that's resolved I'll definitely be looking at a few more mods!
