New head unit - RNS510 [emoji594][emoji1303]
« on: August 30, 2016, 07:20:51 pm »
So it was time for an upgrade, let's be honest the RCD300 looks like it should live in a museum. After weeks of searching the internet talking to members on various forums/groups I was gonna settle for an eBay special aftermarket unit, Xtrons etc. Ready to spend my hard earned cash I thought I'd take one last look on the forum marketplace in hope of a better option. There it was an RNS510 Rev C LED at a price I couldn't resist, (much to the wife's annoyance not long having another baby). I messaged @pashka and happy days it was mine. So rather than have posted I arranged to collect and have @pashka fit and code the radio into the Eddy. So bank holiday Monday I set off on a 4 hour round trip to sunny Leeds excited as my 7 year old at Xmas. The weather was great the tunes coming from radio 1 were awesome and to keep myself entertained on the solo road trip I played "let's see how much time I can beat the sat nav by" spoiler I beat it by 12 minutes and gained 70 extra miles of fuel, gotta love motorway driving. When I finally arrived I met @pashka and the guy was very welcoming. He had the old unit out and the RNS510 in within 10 minutes (done that a few times) all that was left was to code the unit and after a brief 30 minutes in Leeds it was time to head back on the return leg. This time however a nice new shiny head unit to play with. Finally got home, beating the sat nav by 15 minutes this time, very happy. I can't thank @pashka enough great guy, great service and best of all great price. Only problem is the dreaded battery drain. Unfortunately he didn't have any new can gateways left so a quick call to @Eddie-NL and a pre coded one will be arriving tomorrow special delivery thanks @Eddie-NL. You gotta love this forum for help and knowledge. I will fit the gateway this week and problem solved. To say I am happy with the unit is an understatement I would highly recommend @pashka if your thinking of upgrading

Looks so much better think I need a MK6 GTI Steering wheel now the wife will be happy.

Thanks for reading

Looks great. I've just bought a GTi with one fitted from factory and it's such an upgrade from the old rcd300 in my last car. Agree it should be in a museum.

This thread may help me as I want to get the optical parking system working through the head unit. Sounds like the guy sending you a new can gateway might be able to help.

Do you have rear parking sensors on your car?

Glad you bought it. Stops me from thinking about buying it. I've bought stuff from Pashka before and well packaged and priced it was too.  Hard to find much good used stuff here in New Zealand.
