Sorting out Bluetooth to work with iphone
« on: September 02, 2016, 01:07:57 am »
So as I find many little jobs to do on my edition 30 one of them I want to sort quickly is the Bluetooth connectivity.

It's seems a very common issue that with the rns510 and Bluetooth that it's not compatible with iPhones.

Has anyone on here done anything about this? I'm guessing my options are  replace part of the Bluetooth module or just get an aftermarket kit but really I'd like to keep it all OEM and not have to install another kit.

if I stick with OEM install I've no idea what I need to replace though so any links to what is need are much appreciated.

PASHKA sells the required VW Bluetooth module that goes under the drivers seat, you will also need the microphone and the car will have to be coded using VCDS.
Quite a simple plug & play installation with a simple code change required so that the car knows that it is installed.

Look in the for sale section.

Cheers,

Nick

Can it stream music over Bluetooth, or is it just for the phone?

Also how do I find out what Bluetooth module I need?
Searching reveals so many different versions I can see a 9w2 and 9w7 mentioned.

Ideally I want to be able to stream music over Bluetooth from my iPhone.

Sounds like you already have the module fitted, as the RNS510 does not have integrated bluetooth. Have a look under the seats??
Strange the iphone will not connect! is it failing to find it when you try to connect??

Hi Tim I also have a rns510 with a bluetooth module installed under the passenger seat with the mic installed above my head by the courtesy lights. I also have an iPhone which I regularly stream music either via Bluetooth or plugged into the mdi.
All the equipment is OEM all installed by myself, I don't have vcds and the system generally works ok; for the life of me I cannot recall which Bluetooth module I have, but I can take a look over the weekend if that helps.

As far as I know I have an old/different Bluetooth module that only works with a certain standard of Bluetooth devices. (Samsung and Nokia I believe)
I've tested a Samsung and it connects perfectly.

It simply does not find the phone at all.

That would be great if you can find out what module you have. I'll check when I get home which one I have.

I don't have mdi so that's maybe another retro for I can do.

Simple answer - old modules work using RSAP protocol - nokia and some android/samsung phones, later ones - UHV, for iphone need the latest one, which could be called UHV+, 3c8 modules can work on both uhv and rsap, but needs white/colour cluster to pair the phone. Most popular module for mk5 is 7P6.  If it is factory fitted and you would want stereo sound from bluetooth audio, you need to change the loom or add 2 wires to exsisting loom for 2nd audio channel to get stereo sound.

Have  the modules and the looms.

Thanks. The RNS510 was factory fitted and it's a 58 plate car. The Bluetooth module was added after wards.

Argh yes as Pashka noted the Bluetooth module is a 7P6 model.
I also had the issue with mono sound, however I didn't necessarily add additional wires I just moved two of them from different points in the loom and I got sound from all speakers.

Ok this is confusing now. I can't find the Bluetooth module under the drivers seat or even the passenger seat so where could it be lol.

The strange thing is when I connect on the Samsung phone it shows up as VW UHV PREM which sounds like it's the kit that will work with iPhone?

Maybe something I need to activate in VCDS.

Either way but good to locate the Bluetooth module so I can see what version it is.

Pashka,

I'm looking to add Bluetooth to my 58 plate R32, I want to be able to stream music from my iPhone also. Which module do I need for this? There is so many of them, pretty confusing ha!

I think we'll both need the 7P6 module by the sounds of it.
