How to sell my car , who drives on a test drive

Hi putting my gti up in the for sale section this weekend (06 full vwsh dsg silver 3 door 30,000 miles , mint) had to put that quick ad in  :PWhen someone looks at your car how do you go on about test drive etc . Do I drive or do they drive , do they have to show insurance .

I always drive. And then if the buyer looks genuinely interested and pleased with the car. Before they hand over their hard earned cash. I offer them a test drive just show they are happy with what they are buying. 

There's some buyers who come to test drive, Gun it and walk off. I absolutely hate people like that

All down to trust really. If they look like a young immature chav who fits the typical boy/girl racer image I would probably drive instead of him/her. Unless he can show me he can drive another car under his insurance.

As if he/she crashes at the end of the day, and not covered, you would have to pick up the pieces.

Or if you are worried maybe go to a big car park or something with not many cars around so they can test the steering etc and listen for knocks.

if you don't want a possible buyer to test drive the car then say so in the ad.

Worth remembering that policy's that allow people to drive any car will only cover the driver to drive any car third party providing the car being driven is fully comp. This means that the buyer could have an any car policy but if the worst was to happen it's only third party cover and won't pay for damage to the car being driven. The owner would need to claim from their fully comp cover insurance for that. Only very specific traders policy's cover fully comp on any vehicles

All good, valid points.....but would you buy a car without test driving it?

I wouldn't, that's for sure. Selling cars private is a right pain. Think you gotta take the risk, if you want a bit more - otherwise you trade in, or sell to WBAC etc. Just my opinion.

I remember going to look at a Triumph Stag, many years ago, and that was a trader selling- he wanted a deposit before I even got to test drive....Needless to say, I didn't part with any money, and he kept the car, waiting for a mug to come along.

I think t just goes with the territory of selling private
