Xenon auto levelling retrofit
« on: September 09, 2016, 12:55:16 pm »
Hi guys,

I'm planning to retrofit auto levelling and xenons to my Golf Edition 30 tomorrow. I have the auto levellers (front and back), control module and the Kufatec loom. A few questions if anyone's done this before:

1. Where are the auto levelers locations on the car (front and back), will the holes already be there to bolt the auto levellers to?

2. Is the kufatec loom for LHD or RHD cars? I assume I will have to put the cabling on the drivers side?

3. Will I need to locate the control module under the steering wheel? I think from factory, VW put the module on the passenger side but I don't think the cable is long enough.

Any other pointers/gotcha's would be great.

No worries.

I've just looked at the Kufatec wiring loom. The wires to each of the sensors are all grey and numbered. Problem is the numbering is not very clear so I can't make them out properly

Google is your friend on this one

You really need to do a bit of homework on this as it's very doable but not for the faint hearted.

I did this about three years ago, i found the best way was to pull various little snipets from different write ups from various mk5/6 sites, as there was no definitive start to finish and most of the info i found at the time was from US and Aussie sites. Here's one to get you started http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?3552517-Golf-V-GTI-OEM-Xenon-Installation-Completed

A lot of the info i found is bundled up with the whole retrofit of xenons, so info regarding the levellers and headlight washers, as well as the light units themselves.

Regards some of the questions, from memory

1.Holes are pre drilled, the installation is done on the passenger side, so loom and everything runs down that side.
2. I had a custom made loom, so unsure about the Kufatec
3.Mine went behind the the cubby at the side of the dash on the passenger side, there's a little mounting point for it there, as you say i think it is the OEM location. Basically the opposite one from the interior fusebox.

Regards the numbering on the Kufatec loom, if it was me i'd be onto them to sort out better numbering or replace
I had this written down from my installation
CECM block A pin 2 – Power
CAN Hi – Pin 16 – Green & Yellow
CAN Low – Pin 6 – Yellow & White
It might help at some point

Good luck, i have to say it was one of the most rewarding retrofits i did and i've done most of them.

Is autolevellers not over kill? I just did the xenons, had no problems on the roads without the levellers.

(I realise this comment is now redundant as you've already got everything, but was interested to why you are doing them)

I'd just like go as OEM as possible :)

Thanks fabfreddy, I'll do a bit more research and provide an update once done.

The whole levellers thing just seems a massive ball ache tbh.

I have done a few of these and can say the kufatec loom is not long enough for the CAN wiring and Power if you are planning on fitting the module on the end of the glovebox

Fair one - I get that mentality. Do you already have the washers from factory then?

I did all 3 on my Pirelli, with the help of @Eddie-NL well worth doing if you are an OEM freak like me.

Nice to know that you can MOT it and all is as it should be.. factory spec :happy2:
and if you see xenon's without headlight washer that somethings not quiet right
