Looks like a Connects2 box to allow for an Aux input for an MP3 player? I've got one at home I used to have connected to my old RCD300 stereo.

That could answer a few questions because at some point someone has put an iPhone 3/4 cable in the glove box. Problem is it doesn't appear to do anything as when I plug an old iPhone in it doesn't even charge.
More oddly the wires go the opposite way to the glove box and go up behind drivers side/steering wheel.

I need to get the glove box out to see where this old iPhone cable goes.

Just looked at the item on Amazon. Doesn't look like it will have anything to do with the iPhone cable.

It looks like it provides an aux input like you say but in not sure why it would be installed in the first place as the car already has an aux on the arm rest.
