I think people on the PH forum are a bit emotional about the whole thing.  Suggest we keep a low profile until emotions run their course and calm down...

True mojo, I can understand where they are coming from though as regards to being swamped by newbies.

What I fail to understand is why bother to organize a meet at VW UK HQ when the majority of them couldn't give a toss about VW's?

I then fail to see why they are surprised that a bunch of newbies have joined that have VW's. :surprised:

I wouldn't worry about them. Whilst I can see their point, they're being a little short sighted if you ask me. At the end of the day, this event has probably given them 20 new members from this forum alone. Thats 20 new members, who may from now on actively partake in their forums and add to their community - as a direct result of what promises to be a great gathering of both people and cars.

I perceive Pistonheads to be a forum/community that brings together all marques, and so if they seek to limit the amount of VAG presence there then they are going against their purpose and values really.

Inevitably many people on that list won't turn up, with a constant flow of cars it shouldn't be an issue really.

PH Manager Bloke
[report] [news]  11:16

We have been giving the matter of the PH/VW Sunday Service some thought over the past 24 hours and, with regret, we announce that the Volkswagen Sunday Service will be postponed. A new date will follow shortly and we would like to offer our apologies to those who have already signed up and to our hosts at VW.

Shortly after announcing the date we saw unprecedented levels of sign-up resulting in the full 400 capacity being filled within the space of 48 hours or so. Since then it has been apparent that word has spread across other motoring forums and we found ourselves in a position where attendance levels were out of our control. Not only does this cause concern for both PH and our hosts, it also means that we could not guarantee a space would be available for all those who had signed up on the attendance list.

This meet also made it clear to us that the sign-up procedure needs some work to avoid people being knocked off the list, and that will be sorted when we announce the new date. The increasing popularity of PH meets has highlighted how ineffective the current signing-up method is and we will work on a new system that offers a fair sign-up to existing members and also protects those who have already signed up when other members add their details.

PistonHeads Sunday Service meets offer members the opportunity to meet other members and view a wide variety of cars. This meet saw an influx of new members joining and, along with the publicity gathering momentum on other forums, there was a real possibility that this meet would be largely populated by cars made by the host manufacturer. Not only do our hosts want to see a wide range of PH metal, but we also want Sunday Service meets to be as diverse as possible - that's what makes them so interesting and we'll work hard to keep them that way.

Once again, we offer our apologies to those that have signed up to the original date. We are meeting with VW UK later this week and, once we have discussed the situation (and worked on the sign-up procedure), we will announce new details for this meet and a new sign up list will be created.

Once again, please note that the meet on the 21st February has been temporarily postponed

Well with Pistonheads being owned by Haymarket I'm not sure it matters.

Its what probably allows them a foot in the door with the manufacturers in the first place.

Hahahaha!! I'll put an RSC exhaust on it just for you Andy!

Shame about this event. Not entirely sure how they're going to be able to change the whole sign-up process to stop this happening again, and without being unfair.

Ah well.
