Audi TT Engine Cover fitting.
« on: September 17, 2015, 07:07:27 pm »
Good Evening,

Any advice would be much appreciated. Today I attempted to fit the Audi TT engine cover to my GTI, I got the rear two bolts fitted without an issue. The front bolt that looks like a chess piece however was a different story. After failing to screw it in I then dropped it somewhere in the engine bay never to be seen again.

TPS will have two new bolts for me tomorrow morning for take two.

Am I being a complete muppet and missing something? Is the front bolt designed to screw in? It certainly didn't want to.

If anyone is interested the part numbers are...

06F 103 925J engine cover.
06E 103 164 front bolt.
WHT 000 731A two rear bolts.

Below is a picture I was using as a guide showing where the bolts should go, it's the small one at the front I'm struggling with. Where I was attempting to fit it does line up with the hole on the cover.

Here is the cover fitted minus the front bolt and being properly lined up...

Thanks  :happy2:

It will screw in, it's a self tapping screw so cut's the thread of the plastic that it will be screwing into, mine did take a little force but make sure it's lined up perfectly before applying a little pressure to get it to go in.

Thanks, got it fitted second time round with no problems. I made sure I kept a firm grip on it!

Same literally just happened to me! Into the engine bay the lititle bugger went never to be seen again!

How the hell did you fit the back ones? Mine has torque screws in that untighten then just keep turning as if something is holding them on from the other side...

It was a while back but I'm sure I undid them till they were loose then pulled them upwards and at the same time rocked them side to side till they came out. Hope that makes sense.

Cheers mate. Managed to do it in the end, once they are unscrewed they need "popping" upwards, quite hard in my case! Dropped the torque tool into the engine as well and when I was retrieving it with a magnetic tool it grabbed the missing screw as well  :signLOL:

You've had a result there, I had to go and buy another one.

Haha yeah I was quite chuffed to see it attached to the tool as I pulled it out of the engine, I'd already accepted I would have to go and buy another  :pomppomp:
