I built a new table
« on: September 20, 2016, 12:21:35 pm »
I had a few extra large pallets in work from some heavy equipment that was installed. It's always a shame to throw these pallets into recycling so I decided to make a table with them this time around.

Two hours to dismantle all of the pallets.

A couple of simple cross joints for the table legs with one support bar and some old reclaimed bolts

Several hours of cutting and drilling the 40 plus sections for the benches. Had to recess the top and bottom sections so the nuts and washers were hidden in the wood.

Didn't use any glue, nails or screws. All precise cuts relying on the tension from pulling the bars together with a nut/washer either side

A quick sanding to angle the edges

All done. I just need to pick up some varnish now to finish it.

I'll trade you a table for your new plated vice  :signLOL:

Shipping would be the deal breaker, the vice only cost £18 then shipping from my office to spain cost £30.

It's painful spending that much on shipping isn't it. You should fabricate a set of soft covers for the vice face when working on delicate car parts

Does that include flights from Dublin?  :signLOL:

love a bit of recycling - well done!

All done. I just need to pick up some varnish now to finish it.

reckon this would look a lot better in "oiled" finish (not Millers - Ha HA..) rather than varnish - much easier to look after too...

So this isn't the first time I've recycle some old timber and found a new life for it...

My previous builds were french polished, stained etc.

This time around I only lightly sanded some areas of the wood because they were branded with shipping logos. By only using a clear gloss varnish it will add the protection I need whilst still showing these brands. If I do stain it in any way, I won't see the brands as they're quite faded as it is!

Stunning work!!!
Currently sorting my garden by levelling and putting down some decking. Hopefully for next spring, will try and make something similar. If I can get it looking half as good as you, I'd be a happy man!  :congrats:

I actually just leveled out my own garden last week with the intention of putting a few 6 week old turkeys in to fatten up for xmas. In the end I found a farm nearby willing to let me use their land in exchange for raising his ones too.

Now after I varnish the table I'll probably put it outside on the newly leveled spot.

Putting down decking is easy and if you're smart about it, you can look on donedeal etc. this time of year because it's getting too cold for anyone to do any work outside so they'll sell their old building materials.

You're welcome to the plans I had for my table by the way... Very simple to follow
