Cam Follower

Just to set the scene.. I'm a complete newbie when it comes to mechanics and I have the hand eye coordination of a lemon..

With thanks to forum members and Youtube I have now replaced my cam follower.. with the dreaded banjo bolt.

I picked up this car at 90k and I've attached a picture. Any idea if this would have been replaced before?



For newbies... I can definitely suggest getting a 1/4 inch drive as I was attracted to a halfords combination 3/8 and 1/4 inch and the ratchet is rather large which makes the banjo bolt rather difficult.



Next on the list.. 18 inch Monza and a colour coded bumper.

Good job you changed that mate, it was close to obliteration. Probably was never changed if your car is stock as the cam follower doesn't come under much stress on a stock car, i believe, i may be wrong. i changed mine the other day and it looked just like yours in time for my stage 1 remap.

I bet it would have done another 30K.  Really doesn't look that bad, just the coating that's come off.

Well worth changing though.

Take it out and check it regularly for wear OR wait for the Follower to wear through and destroy the top end of the engine  :grin: Sorry!

Seriously though there is no way of telling without physically looking at it, Ive done 4 now on different cars 3 at 40000 Miles and 1 at 60000 Miles. Others are changing theirs as with the OP in this thread at 90K Miles although it could have been replaced by a previous owner. So unless you have owned the car from new and are unsure I would fit one to be on the safe side.

Take it out and have a look at it. If it looks anything like the one in the pic above then change it. Some may say it's got a bit more life left in that one above but i won't want to take that risk.
