Any differences in the front headlight level sensor?

Hi folks,

My front sensor is broken, so looking to get a replacement.  I'm just wondering if all the golfs have these?  Or is it specific to gti or Xenons?

Which sensor?

If you have xenons from factory then you most likely have the auto leveller which is under the passenger wheel well connected to the wishbone.

Or are you talking about the one in the cabin beside the light switch that you turn from 0 to 2 to change their position?

I think the headlight auto leveling sensors are fitted for Golf's with the factory Xenon options only. My GTI had a broken leveling sensor where the arm broke off and would have failed the MOT. Though a mechanic who was aligning my wheels warned me about it a couple of weeks before my MOT test so I had time to buy the part cheaply and get it replaced there and then to save time.

I bought my OEM auto leveling sensor from AliExpress (part number:  1T0 907 503B) for £34, fitted fine and passed the MOT thereafter. Otherwise it would've been about £110 so saved myself a bit there!

Not the case. If your leveling arm is broken you won't fail an MOT. As long as the headlights are still straight on it's fine.

Many people break theirs and it's just a case of cable tying it at the midpoint.

The auto leveling sensor is only handy if you have a heavy load in the boot and you don't want to blind oncoming traffic.

So to be clear.. It's the auto sensor attached to the front suspension. 

So are we saying it is only cars fitted with Xenons that have this levelling sensor?

How will they know to look for a broken sensor in a car that's hidden in the wheel well which gives no dash light errors if your headlights are in the correct position as is?

The sensor is a luxury not a requirement.

They only requirement is that your lights are aligned and at the right height.

Yes I believe it's only factory spec xenons with this option.

Cop on will you, you shouldn't give bad advice to fellow members.

You're wrong about the MOT and the broken sensor. 3 friends, me included have all passed with a broken sensor.

Think about this logically and don't be close minded. How would a tester in the MOT know to look for a physical crack in a sensor hidden in a wheel well that gives no dash lights? If the lights are pointing the way they should then it's a pass.

I'm taking about the linkage that connects the sensor to the suspension broken, obviously if it was hidden you would be able to fail what you can't see but there usually pretty visible. Sorry if I misunderstood
