On Thursday night last week I got to the car and it wouldn't start, I'd had starter issues and had fitted a new (reconditioned) Bosch unit on the Tuesday that week.
Anyhow, I got started with a jump start and went to the local halfords who checked the battery and said it tested good, but low on charge, it needs charging and it'll be OK. So I drove 45 ish miles back home and put my battery on charge after disconnecting it from the car.
Friday morning I got go it and same as the night before, it just went clunk. No sign of turning over or anything, I charged the battery a little longer and still the same. A friend came and we tried to jump it off her focus, nothing, just the same.
So after calling the garage I have used before, the mechanic suggested it must be the alternator given the information and that a new battery wouldn't go amiss too. So I got the alternator and battery from Euro car parts and proceeded to fit them. Still it wouldn't start or even turn over. I tried jumping it again and nothing, I checked the battery and the old one I had charged up was a higher voltage. So I used that as a slave and still nothing, just a clicking sound.
Eventually it started to turn over and at this point the garage called back, I spoke to a different mechanic and he was adamant that the starter was at fault and it needed changing despite being fitted less than a week. So off I went to Euro car parts again with the starter motor and they swapped it for a new one. Once fitted I tried it again and it turned over but wouldn't start, then the message, 'stop engine low oil pressure' came up on the dash.
So, I got it go the garage and they looked at it today, the engine would not budge, even removing the starter motor, as this can stick in line with the flywheel and prevent the engine turning.
Question is what can be done now, sell it for parts? Break it myself? Or try and trade it in? It's essential that I can get to work 38 miles away, but I don't really have time to mess around breaking it. Are there any specialist breakers out there. I'm in Derbyshire.
Thanks for looking.
