Used both mate.  Used Durham for my cambelt service and used Newcastle for a repair (airbag fault) didn't have any issues with either.  Told both not to wash or vac the car and neither did!!  Car was ready when they said infact my cars back in Newcastle on Monday (using them cause it's closer to work) for the coil recall repair.

One bit of advice DON'T use Sunderland they are a bunch of chimps.

I've used all 3, Geof..

Used Benfield Scotswood road for parts and never had a problem with them.

Used Benfield silverlink Newcastle a good few years back now for a service on the Mrs' old mk4 Golf. Again, no problems to report and thought they did a good job..

Used Pulmans Durham as recent as September last year as we bought the Mrs' GT Sport from them. Again, very good service from them (even loaned us a car while waiting for the GT to be ready for collection as the old mk4 TAX was due to run out).

I will be giving Pulmans a ring early next week regarding the coil pack recall

Yes, Benfield Silverlink is where the Ed30 and her GT TDi 170 go all the time, so would recommend them.
In my experience their service desk are better than their sales team.
I've found that by the time you've checked 'independent' garages for price and knowledge you're just as well to go to the dealer and haggle their price, by way of price matching etc.
I know there are some horror dealer stories out their but Benfield have always been spot on for servicing and any warranty work.

used to use pulman durham for my old mkt4tdi. i would recommend them without hesitation. used them even though im over 60 miles away. staff were friendly and helpful and their work was spot on. got them to handle a corrosion claim even though they dont have their own bodyshop they took photos and dealt with vw and got work done by nearby vw approved workshop. even though they were gettin no benefit i got thei rcourtesy car while car in bodyshop. great showroom and cafe too :happy2:
