I have to agree that unless your going to tune it, the significant difference in price isn't worth it.

Depends whether or not you want the Edition 30 over the GTI because its a Limited Edition and much rarer car?

Its not about tuning the car for me Although I am going to go Stage 1 on mine its not the reason I went for an ED30, It was my preferred choice and worth every penny extra over the GTI model.

Not knocking the GTI at all

Anniversary models have always been worth more than the GTI, and will always be worth more.  You generally get bits of bodykit and / or spec not available on regular GTI's.  Assuming both were in budget, I'd travel the distance for the Edition.  Heck, I once traveled over 1,000 miles round trip for a car.  And another time over 600 miles.  As alluded to earlier, people are getting lazier when it comes to travelling for cars.  The amount of people I see unwilling to travel more than 50 miles for a car astounds me.

I'd buy the very best example of whichever you can find / afford. I'd much rather have a mint Gti than a ropey Edition 30.

It's not a matter of people being too  lazy to travel - you guys are missing the point totally - it's based on experiences people have found of sh*tty examples, whatever the car,  being described as mint and pristine etc, only to find that they are a pile of poo when you get there  no wonder people are reluctant to travel too far.....Observation....

Exactly. I travelled to Glasgow once from Birmingham, the owner said the car was mint. When I got to his house I saw the car on his drive, I didn't even call him out, turned around and headed straight back home. I was so miffed I could've rung his neck!

in that price you MIGHT be able to pick up a mk6 GTI? not as low mileage as you would get for a mk5 of course but theres a couple on the auto trader for about 9200 done around 75k
