1st gear problem

Hi everyone, For the past couple of days it's been bloody difficult trying to put our mk5 golf gt tdi into 1st gear,, All the other gears go in without any problem, What could it be please,

Might be play in input shaft
Easy job need to get shims and put in box

Box doest have to come out
Check the vid on youtube

Done this on a few cars now that used to not go into 1st and /or first and reverse

Any other symptoms of this apart from the gear selection? Noise etc?

Mines pre 2007 anyway mostly earlier ones have the problem
