Whats the best free photo software package?
« on: January 22, 2010, 01:02:37 pm »
Hey folks

Im looking to get some photo processing software to have a little play with my pics im taking. After seeing the price of photoshop i dont think ill be going down that route as im no where near clued up enough to be able to get the most out of it. I have seen some free downloadable software on the net such as Paint and GIMP but have no idea on which would be the best for me to get. All im looking to do basically is have a little clean up of my images sharpening them putting them to black and white etc then getting a bit more in depth as i get to know what all the settings do.

So what do you guys recomend?

Thanks
Ben

Have you tried Picassa?  It's not strictly speaking a photo editing program, but it does do simple manipulation. It's really good.

My vote would go for Picasa 3.6 Build 95.25 - that's free.

If you can spend £40 then PhotoShop Elements.  Nothing comes close to that!

Did this in picasa

Very easy to use. Good for touching up facial pictures - had one with the wee man where he had skinned his nose and it touched it up so it was invisible
