Thanks buddy!

You seem to know a lot about the head units, what should I expect to pay for this unit?

How much for a new canbus and is installation handy enough for me?

Thanks!

On average for RNS 510's you're looking around £400+ depending on the revision, for DAB versions expect an extra premium of around £150+ on top. If I recall you will also need a dual FAKRA to dual radio aerial adapter if you're upgrading from a MFD2 to the RNS 510. If you have the 6 CD Autochanger and AUX option you may need to swap some of the pins around to avoid poor audio quality issues after the change over (swap pin 2 to 3 and pin 5 to pin 7).

For the Canbus Gateway bare minimum you need is Revision L (1K0 907 530 L) to avoid battery drain but these are now superseded by 7N0 907 530 gateways fitted on the latest generation Volkswagen vehicles which work on our MK5 Golf. Prices for these will vary, I got my uncoded Canbus Gateway (7N0 907 530 AM) for as little as £20 but if you don't have VCDS and want someone to code it expect an extra £15-£20 on top or so. Location of the Gateway is dependant on the model year of your GTI, earlier models is located underneath the ashtray, 2005-2006 models is under the footwell (pain in the :booty:), later models is under the front windscreen shield.

If you want integrated telephone prep you will need the separate Bluetooth module (about £130) that fits underneath the seat and run the microphone wire through the A-pillar and through the comfort lights on the top. Most likely you need to code this with VCDS to get the BT function working too.

Thanks @PatchySan

Mine is an early 2005 so I think it's above my clutch pedal and I have the MFD2 with the 6 disc.

Sounds like a bit of work.

If I get a good deal I might buy it anyway and fit it down the line if I get a chance!
