I was at a set of traffic lights in Hull around 3 years ago and 2 lanes went down to 1 after the lights. After jockeying for position with the car on the inside lane I "put my foot down" to get in front of him before the lanes merged. The camera van that was waiting after the lights recorded me at 32MPH and I got sent an NIP with the option of a speed awareness course!!!

No point arguing the case as the hole just becomes wider and deeper, so my advice would be to just swallow the bitter pill and laugh every time you don't get caught. ;-)

Oh and if you think I'm being holier than thou then I can assure you that you that I am far, far from being a saint.

Keeping it original..............or not!!

Exact opposite. The visual speed i.e. needle must be less than the true speed of a car by EU regulations.
The speedo on the mk5 over reads i.e the actual speed is less than the indicated dial speed.

Yes! Another way of phrasing what I said.

It's not just on the mk5 though.

That is not what you said though, although might be what you meant.  What you said suggested that the needle on your cluster under-reads the true speed of the vehicle, whereas it actually over-indicates the true speed.  This is why the "10% + 2mph" guidelines are there.

The APCO threshold is 35 mph. I am within the threshold - ie not over 35,  36 being the apparent trigger, unless I have mis-understood it.
Threshold in this case means the speed at which you're charged. So If you were doing 34mph, you would have been okay. 35mph and above and they charge.

As others have pointed out, 35mph actual speed would have meant your speedo was reading close to 40mph.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Section 9 has a table which covers your issue. Valid 2011-2015 , don' t think the guidelines have changed for this year.
