Engine management light

Morning everyone,

I've just recently purchased an edition30, it drove home fine and for the first day no issues. However the second day the engine management light came on while driving home from work, I left it hoping it would be gone the next morning, however it was still on. That evening it had turned itself off and now it is back on again on my drive to work this morning. The car runs absolutely fine and cannot figure out what it might be. Can anyone around the Leeds/Wakefield area scan it for me?

Did it not also have some explanation come up on the MFD as well? If not, then it is probably emissions related and can come and go.
Make sure not to fill up your fuel tank to the very brim too when refueling. Once the pump clicks off automatically, leave it at that. Filling it to the very top will cause the overflow to go towards the charcoal cannister (or is it the purge valve? Someone here will correct me) which over time can cause it to throw up the check engine light.

No nothing on the MFD, the light has come and go. That would make sense about filling it to the brim, i'm coming from a diesel where this was ok so could be where i'm going wrong. Is it likely for the light to come on a quarter into the tank after filling up Monday?

Carbon canister. Front driver side of engine. A useless part which deals with vapours off the fuel tank.

MFD will not tell you the issue unless it's the likes of a bulb or oil usually.

You can brim it, go ahead. If you do it once then the carbon is already saturated and needs total replacement.

You better scan it with VCDS to be sure, I wouldn't risk it.

If it is the carbon issue with the N80 valve etc. then I would personally do nothing but clear the fault each time. Mine came up once a month for 6 months and hasn't come back in over a year.

Cheers Luke, i'll try get it scanned this weekend just need to find someone with VAGCOM. Don't know if this is related but went on lunch today at work, engine light still on, parked up and switched the engine off and I could see very light smoke coming from the vents above the bonnet, it was barely visible outside the car but I could see it through the window. Any ideas?

A carbon canister wouldn't give those symptoms.

Check the VCDS register for someone nearby

I'd say that "smoke" was just a hot engine in cold weather!

I thought that at first, but its not that cold out and the car was driven for 10 mins tops. I'll keep an eye on it and find someone to check it. Cheers for the help though, appreciate it.
