Mp3 and phone button
« on: October 20, 2016, 09:33:40 am »
Morning guys, I'm still playing with the new car and trying to figure out what does what. Few questions about the stereo and mfsw.

Firstly the stereo head unit has mp3 printed on it, how do I connect to it with my phone, can't find any ports anywhere.

Secondly, the phone button on the mfsw does nothing, should it?

Cheers

Same as mine I'd be interested in the answers. Me and my sister have the same headunit (she has a mk6), but when she clicks phone it comes up with a set of options and she can connect her phone to it. Mine just mutes my music  :signLOL:

You need a Bluetooth module as your car wouldn't have come with one factory fitted

Is there an easier way to get music, can you retrofit a USB port or a headphone jack

You have loads of options.
Firstly you could upgrade your headunit to an aftermarket one with usb/aux/sd card functions or to something oem like an rns510 or rcd510 which have an sd card slot and i think you can plug an aux cable into the back of them too.
you could purchase an mdi kit from vw which can go in the glovebox or armrest this will give you full control of media connected from your device through your radio. There are also loads of boxes like the connects 2 that plug into the cd changer slot and have ports for usb and aux. Again you can bring these out into the glovebox which is the tidiest place and out of sight.

Give a quick search, something like "adding usb or aux to rcd 300", you will find loads of information.

Best of luck

On the European rcd510 there is no USB connection at the back of the radio. The Chinese models do but they do not have rds.

If you plan on keeping your standard radio I'd look into this

I had one in my old mk5 gti. Worked very well.

I think you need to press the CD button twice

Found out that the head unit won't work with just the leader, you need the module to go with them

IIRC mp3 refers to mp3 CDs ie you could burn hundreds of mp3s to CD and it'll play them as opposed to having to burn as an audio CD and having only 10-12 tracks.

Only if you have bluetooth fitted.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
