Loss of power in higher gears
« on: October 23, 2016, 04:56:31 pm »
Had my GTi a few months now, and have had it remapped by revo. The car has done 58k with full VW service history. The car was fine with the power after the remap just recently when in 5 & 6 gears and going to over take the car feels as if the clutch is slipping but then regains power. Unsure if it is clutch related or potentially diverter valve. Any help will be appreciated.  :happy2:

Do you keep an eye on the revs when it hesitates? It'll be easy to spot the revs jumping a bit. If it is the clutch I can recommend the Helix Organic. I fitted one after my stock clutch started slipping (also high load high gears) and it's spot on. Feels like stock apart from a slightly heavier pedal, and apparently good for 400lb/ft. It's handled 350lb/ft for months without issue.

It doesn't sound like typical DV failure symptoms. I'd expect it to lose boost in all gears under load rather than just the higher gears. But it's worth checking anyway. You can get to it through the osf arch liner. VW rev G works well; again mine handles plenty of boost and still feels as responsive as when it was fitted more than a year ago.

It's worth getting it scanned for fault codes; it could be something completely unrelated to the clutch or diverter valve.

+1 what @ajp says.  This was the first thing I noticed shortly (not immediately) after a remap. It was the clutch slipping in 6th on motorway overtakes.  Helix clutch sorted the problem!

As above after APR 1 on a 80k eddy...hardly surprising!

Got mine with a new oem flywheel from AKS Tuning (vRSAlex on here). He usually has them in stock. I've heard stories of other vendors sending out the wrong flywheel/slave etc, and Alex usually does the best prices, so it was a no brainer.
