MFD2 - no DVD message on screen
« on: October 29, 2016, 09:06:32 pm »
I have paid a deposit on an 2005 gti and from searching google images I think the head unit in it is the MFD2. It has black buttons (I see some have silver buttons). Anyway when I test drove the car the bottom of the stereo screen said "no dvd".
Does this mean the unit has sat nav built in but is missing the mapping disc or something else? I didn't think to press the nav button. If so what is the most recent mapping available?

Thanks

Not too sure, mine is the same HU as yours, and sometimes says 'no disc' above the nav button, even though it has a nav disc loaded in and also it looks to be a genuine one, and my satnav works fine.  Doesn't really answer your question, but may help.  You cold just ask the seller?

I have the same headunit in my 2006 GTI.  It means one of three things: (1) The sat nav disc is missing.  Simple check when in the car; (2) the system is faulty in that it doesn't recognize the disc; (3) it doesn't have an original sat nav disc inserted, but a copy.  Not all copies are of good enough quality. Check with the Seller as Sandman says. Discs can be got from Satnavdvd.co.uk at £29.99 but frankly I have no idea of their quality and suspect they are copies.  Best bet is off ebay.  You can get the genuine  2 x Bosch discs for 2016 (you need the unlock disc as well) for about £70.00.

Thanks for the offer but I am in Glasgow.
I picked the car up today and there is no disc. I have ordered a replacement. Should be here midweek.
