Turbocharger Bypass Valve Control Circuit: Malfunction
« on: January 25, 2010, 04:35:42 pm »
I've noticed recently that I have a re-occurring fault code:

1 Fault Found:
000051 - Turbocharger Bypass Valve Control Circuit: Malfunction / Open Circuit
               P0033 - 004 - No Signal/Communication - Intermittent
             Freeze Frame:
                    Fault Status: 00100100
                    Fault Priority: 0
                    Fault Frequency: 12
                    Mileage: 40627 km
                    Time Indication: 0
                    Date: 2010.01.16
                    Time: 19:47:19

             Freeze Frame:
                    RPM: 1331 /min
                    Load: 32.5 %
                    Speed: 11.0 km/h
                    Temperature: 85.0°C
                    Temperature: 36.0°C
                    Absolute Pres.: 1010.0 mbar
                    Voltage: 13.970 V

It always seems to occur at while the car is not boosting and at low revs - RPM: 1331 /min and Absolute Pres.: 1010.0 mbar

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of this code?  I've done a search on the various forums and could not find much apart from replace your DV which I would not mind doing but I want to be sure that its broken first.  I've not logged my boost yet but I am pretty sure that its boosting ok and as I already said this fault code seems to occur off boost.

Any ideas?

I have checked how the car is boosting and looks looks fine as I expected.  Actual boost is meeting requested and the N75 cycle looks fine.

My thoughts are now going towards a loose connector so I will unplug everything and check it out.

Update - I unplugged everything and all looks fine on with the connectors.  One thing I noticed is that the tray which comes with the BSH CAI has been moving and rubbing against the DV so at the moment this is my only possible explanation for the fault code.  However this is just speculation as I have no proof.

The tray could do with a better washer as the one BSH supply is not big enough to hold the tray down tightly and prevent movement.

Looks like this is the very problem we are getting and BSH have changed the washer for the TSIs:

I did actually ask Phil@BSH about this in that thread and BSH were not aware of the same issues on the TFSI.

I had this code when D.V was not opening and closing.

^^^
Interesting, the code has not come back since I've switched to the Twintake so I am going to have to conclude that in my case it was caused by the BSH tray moving and rubbing against the DV.
