« on: November 06, 2016, 05:06:56 pm »
Ok so I was looking to do the k04 conversion on the old girl and I have 95% of the parts needed but I came off the phone from turbo teknicks and there going to start a k04 hybrid conversion shortly ! But what is actually needed and who can map the turbo and mods properly ? So from what iv read is you need the following.

Ko4 hybrid turbo
3" turbo back Exhuste
Rs4 injectors
Lobba or Apr hpfp
The ttrs lpfp
Rods and pistons
Upgraded head studs and bolts
Upgraded head gasket
150 bar fuel return valve
Upgraded plugs
Clutch

Is there any thug iv missed ?

Why not sell up and buy an Edition 30?
Past: MK5 Golf GTI, Black Magic Pearl, Xenons, SatNav, MFSW, Highline
Past: Edition 30 #1411, Tornado Red, Xenons, Revo Intake, H+R Springs, Highline, DSG,

Current: Mk5 Golf GTI, Steel Grey, 3dr, Manual

I'd you're doing all that it's worth changing valve springs as they can suffer a bit. Also 150bar FPRV might not be enough I think Niki now sells 170 bar ones.

You also didn't mention intercoolers, with hybrid meth is best but a good cooler will be enough in this country.

Would you not have the price of an Edition 30 if you add the cost of all those parts (plus assembling a forged motor and tuning it) to the trade in value of your standard GTI??

If your standard GTI is worth even only 5K...
And a reasonable Eddy is about 10K...

That only leaves you 5K for the build.....

Hpfp - £500
Lpfp - £175
RS4 injectors - £400
Forged motor - £2,000 (cheaper obviously if you're building it yourself)
Hybrid K04 from TT - £1,000 (???)
3in custom TBE - £800
Decent clutch - £400

Total - £5,275

And that's with no labour. Other than the built engine.

Then you've got to tune it.

And account for all the millions of little things. Clips, hoses, brackets and sh*te you need when doing a big project that can add to big money super fast :ashamed:

Don't get me wrong.....

I actually prefer building a basic car up to be better and faster than the "special editions" from the manufacturer...

But I've definitely never found it to be the cheaper option

I reckon I could have had close to Mk6 R for the amount of money I've sunk into my humble AXX engined early Mk5 :ashamed:

But it is a right ripper

You already got half of the things on that list anyway.
Its expensive if your starting from scratch but if you already have stage 2 mods its not so bad....apart from the engine rebuild

Yeah I think you might be a bit low on your prices ducman, by at least £900.

As said its crazy the amount of money the smaller parts add up, gaskets, seals, sealer, hoses, clips.

Not trying to put you off its very satisfying when it goes well. Go for it!

Stevie.  :drinking:

Very true, I think once you forge an car as old as the mk5 you need to access that you wont get the money back when selling.

Nobody wants to be that guy selling a mk5 for 20k just because youve spent that much in mods lol

So true!!

Think mine will eventually have to be a dedicated track car as I'll never sell it for anything near what it owes me

modding is a big downfall to the value of the sale of a car. You can't de mod the forged bits unless you're crazy :rolleye:  :signLOL:
