Welshname's Black Edition 30 DSG
« on: November 06, 2016, 09:15:43 pm »
So a couple of weeks ago I went looking at a few edition 30's.

Finally found one that was higher mileage than I'd have liked but was perfect body wise and had full VWSH so I went up and a deal was done.

It's 102k, full VWSH and immaculate body wise except for 1 scratch on the driver's door.  No dents or marks anywhere.

So the car has an R Tech sticker on the boot and it was certainly faster than others I'd test drove.  I messaged them with the plate but they have no record of it, however I believe it's been on a private plate before.

What I did do was hook up my bluetooth ODB2 reader to the android head unit and use torque.

Making peak boost of 19.4 there but it didnt hold there and dropped off to 14psi very quickly.  The initial surge is definitely there.

So I got about doing the usual suspects to check and ordered the newer PCV a cam follower and the GFB DV+ to see if that was the cause.

Old PCV was minging!

Cam follower wasn't too bad.

However no real improvement other than I now hit a peak boost of 21-22psi.

Where are the other places to look for boost leaks, common areas?

Car has also had so far 4 new Pilot Sport 4's to replace the crappy budgets and the obligatory GTi seat inserts.

Also does anyone know the car?  It was owner by someone called Matt Parker at some point as that's the Gmail account that was linked to the head unit when I got the car.  I tried emailing him but got no response.

I'd love to know if it was on here before, previous to me it was with a "trader".  This is the car that had these pictures in the ad with this plate on but I think that's not a plate that's been on the car, just on the "trader" uses when advertising

Thanks.  For anyone that's interested here is what it replaced.

I've had 4 Clio's, 2 Renault Sports (172 followed by the above 197) and I'll definitely miss them.  But this is a much better all rounder.

Thanks people.

I really want to know if this is mapped or not so I can work out my next steps.  Does anyone know of this car?  It doesn't have a plate on it so that's something I'll look at doing, but surely someone should recognize it from the for sale ads?

So boost leak areas to investigate?  Also getting the following fault codes:

P0010 - Powertrain: "A" Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit (Bank 1)
P0441 - Powertrain: Evaporative Emmission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow

I believe P0441 is to do with the carbon canister and the hoses around there/N85 Valve so I'll look at that one.

P0010 though I've swapped the camshaft position sensor out already but it's still coming up.  Any ideas?

Hi,

its definitely been mapped a stock boost is about 10-12psi.

as for boost leaks, Id check the intercooler pipes ase the silly bayonet couplers arent the greatest.

But it peaks for a second and drops that low.  From what I've seen it should hold much higher than 14psi.

Nice spec eddy. 102k is nothing as long as it's well maintained. Mines hit 107k and feels the same as when i bought it with 60k.

Aha!

It'll never live up to the Clio round the bends, not in terms of feel on the road anyway.

This however is a much better all round package.  The way it covers ground with ease is astonishing.  From 30mph to about 80mph goes by so quick it's untrue.

It's comfy, it's quiet and it just eats up miles.  It's an odd engine as it feels like a much bigger engine is under the bonnet in terms of how it drives.

There's more interior rattles than I'd have expected from a VW but it seems common, the seats are amazingly comfy and going for a DSG model was definitely the best option, it suits the engine and car perfectly.
