Knocking sound from front, advice?

Recently posted about a knocking sound from my wheel area, took my car to my local today and we've narrowed the knock down to the steering rack itself  there was no play in the ball joints and the rest of the rods were solid too, my question is am I alright to drive with this rack on for a couple months whilst I get the money together to replace it?

Yep.

Last time mine went into VW for a service, they said my rack had a slight bit of play in it too.   The joys.  That'll be a £1500 ish bill coming up for me too soon, then!
