Getting all the engine issues sorted on my car at Dialynx
« on: November 04, 2016, 09:49:29 pm »
Having originally been sceptical of the performance of my low miles AXX engine GTI I bought 18 months ago,  I've decided to get it sorted once and for all (I hope).

I put a new revision G dv in a couple of months after buying the car and a new cam follower. Initially the engine felt immensely more powerful,  the revision C dv was original and split. Happy days.

However,  the idle was still a tiny bit lumpy,  thermostat sstuck with the gauge never getting fully upright and the dreaded diesel rattle was there after warm up.

I looked into changing the thermostat myself but it's a reasonably long winded job and the car is my daily so never got round to fitting it.

After driving round for 6 months being fed up with the car I decided last week to chuck it into Dialynx VAG specialists in Swindon who have dominated the Audi Quattro tuning scene for years.

I'm having the following done:

Cam chain and tensioner renewed with genuine parts
Oil and filter change in association with the above.
Thermostat (supplied by me) and coolant flush.
Fit gfb dv+ (supplied by me) but that I couldn't fit having rounded off the hard to reach Allen head bolt.
Head valve decoke whilst intake manifold is off for the thermostat change.

The bill is £1100 which sucks but I simply don't have the time to do it all myself and don't want to spend years lamenting what is wrong with the car rather than enjoy it.

I pick it up tomorrow and hope to god it feels better!  I will let you know how I get on.

Well I can definitely recommend dialynx,  very friendly,  very upfront and did exactly what I wanted.  The car is quiet as a church mouse now!

Well i've put a few miles on the car this afternoon and oh my god it is a different car.

The engine is so quiet which makes if subconsciously feel tight and new, the idle seems far more stable and less lumpy after the valve clean and the GFB DV+ is working a treat and the car feels like a proper hot hatch again.

It is also nice to see the temperature needle sit in the middle again.

I would recommend swallowing the cost of getting these bits of maintenance done - might as well enjoy the car rather than lament it.

Now I've just got to fight VW for a n/s wing replacement......

100% recommend these guys http://www.dialynx.co.uk/ as they've done a great job and it cost less than I was expecting considering the valve clean and cam chain job should have been a grand on its own.

Well done ReflexRob!!

That's a great list of jobs to have had done :happy2:

In my opinion £1,100 is a very good price to have all that done

Myself and a friend recently did the inlet valve cleaning. Took us 12hrs :ashamed:

The thermostat took another 10hrs!! We were so long doing the inlet valves we ran out of time to replace the thermostat. So we had to come back to it another day. Which meant we had do the thermostat with the inlet manifold still in place. That slowed us down big time!

We're already 22hrs into the car and we haven't even done the cam chain and tensioner!!

Obviously giving the car to people who know their way around a Volkswagen is a much cheaper (and safer ) option

Me and my buddy aren't familiar with VAG cars at all so each time we have at it it's a steep learning curve!!

I can't wait to replace my timing chain. The racket coming of my car at idle is embarrassing!!

I'm not proud at having paid someone to do the work or the money it cost. Up until a few years ago I would have done these jobs myself but with 2 young kids and the wife and I working at different times of the day it was impossible.

I'm just glad I love the car again and would encourage anyone to get the work done if they can't do it themselves and start loving the car  again.

Big respect for you doing it yourself ducman!

Cheers buddy!!

You're definitely right to just get it done and love the car again!

When your kids are a bit bigger you'll be back at it no bother :happy2:

It's virtually impossible to get anything done when they're little. I spent a good couple of years not even getting to wash my car let alone work on it

Now that mine are a bit bigger and easier to manage (i.e. Pawn off on my sister and their cousins ) I find I'm getting to work on the cars again. It's bliss!!
