I searched far and wide for exhaust options for my '09 VW Golf GTI Mk5 and finally settled for the Power valve stainless steel exhausts offered by BCS Automotive after reading the many rave reviews that the company receives. I purchased the full turbo back system (sports prestige non power valve version) with black ceramic coated lightning series tips in two parts, starting with the downpipe first and then the catback later on to make the full TBE.
First impressions of the downpipe were, Jesus this thing is large! Apart from the size though, it was very clear that this was a quality piece of kit, especially compared to the stock downpipe. On first start up, the sound was a bit deeper than stock but sounded like it needed a bit of refinement when mated to the stock catback. This was true especially on low revs. The sound really came into its own when driving in WOT mode. After 3000 - 4000 the sound is really transformed.
Went ahead and purchased the catback and mated this to the already installed downpipe. This is when the system really came into its own. With the twin rear silencers, I was slightly worried that the system would be too quiet. I was wrong. On start up, the exhaust produces a deep but non intrusive growl that let's others know that this isn't your normal golf. When driving around normally, the exhaust is pretty quiet - no drone, and slightly louder than stock. Start to put your foot down and things changes pretty fast. The sound progressively gets louder. The bass in the sound reduces and the trebles increase revealing a tone that is akin to what you would get from a true sports car that quickly puts a very, very large smile on your face. This thing combined with my forge twintake makes for a very 'audible' car, scaring pedestrians and drivers alike. :)
Customer service from BCS was top notch. I dealt with Nige for both of my transactions and he really is a top guy. A very professional and patient chap, responding to all of my queries, which became so many at some point that i had to start another email thread, as i was an international customer. He even went ahead to throw in a replacement powerflex dog mount insert after I realised I had ordered for the wrong one.
In summary, if you're looking for an exhaust system, forget about jetex, scorpion, miltek and go BCS power valve. The quality, fit and finish, sound and performance of this exhaust system top notch and their customer device is equally impressive.
