« on: November 16, 2016, 05:18:43 pm »
Hi guys, can anyone give me a recommendation for some half decent pads to fit my standard brake calipers  as the ferrodo ones are to expensive fir my liking and the ebc ones don't get good comments on here so point me in the right direction please

There's the Mintex M1144 but a few people have said they're a bit squeaky. Ferodo do a set called 'Performance' that are more affordable than DS2500, not sure if they do a set for the mk5 GTI but it's worth looking up.

I'm assuming you don't do any trackdays or too much hard driving if you're still on the standard brakes, so oem pads should work fine. Pagid make good oem spec pads.

EBC red are quite decent for road use and were recommended to me by VWR, though some of the old reviews were pretty concerning. I use them with MTEC c hook discs.

I had EBC red in my Astra vxr, this was a while ago so compounds could have changed by now but they were rubbish when cold but were slightly better when they had warmed up.

M1144 can be a bit squeaky.

Upgraded pads are expensive I am afraid. You have to pay to play as the saying goes.

My ed30 had the Mintex on it when I bought it, front and rear.   Didn't notice any squealing from them.  Pretty dusty mind.
