With the nature of the proper enthusiasts Vs most of the 'undesirables'  :innocent: as our cars get older, cheaper.  I think we'll keep the right user base to be honest.  Long live the Forum  Haha.
Now how do I retweet this?.....

I think if this forum worked well on mobiles without that annoying Tapatalk app I'd visit/post more.

Edition 30 #1994 now sold. *cries*

I myself believe that this is a big factor into forums generally being a lot quieter now-a-days. More people browse and use the internet on a phone so if the forum isn't up to date in terms of being easy to use and no visual defects when browsing on a phone or tablet then users just won't bother visiting.

It's sad really as I still believe you can't beat a forum but as with everything in life, things change.

I never use Tapatalk to browse the forum. I prefer to use the smartphone native web browser.

I agree that Facebook groups are slowly killing all forums but I still prefer forums to really keep up with great builds and for information seeking. Facebook group search is poor at best to help me find what I need. If I can't find something using the native search feature, Google can easily help me to find the needed topic.

I always browse the forum on my mobile web browser. No bother, works 99.5% as well as on my desktop. I really do not think that's a sticking point here

Something that may be of a consideration is that the forum needs to fully embrace the progression of the Golf model.
I would imagine many members here have gone MK6 and Mk7 now.
Having looked at the alternatives there is no better place than here in my honest opinion.
The best forum by a mile.

We have various Golf MK area's etc but Its obvious the majority of new Golf owners are posting elsewhere be it on other forums or Facebook.

Any suggestions would be excellent

The plus side of these cars becoming cheaper is that hopefully you get more people willing to do some crazy **** to them. Conversely, people start to appreciate clean, unmodded examples as they get rarer.

I also think you will get more people doing DIY rather than just taking it to a dealer under warranty, which is always good for the technical/help threads.

Still a great forum with a lot of knowledge to tap into. I agree with wolfburger that the MK6 and (mainly) the MK7 have'nt quite exploded but give it time. I have a MK7 now and I'm positive any question I asked will be answered correctly here.

It's an interesting point, maybe to some extent.

Although, I never feel like posting in a Facebook group would necessarily get me the quality of answer or reply I could get on this forum or a similar enthusiast focused one, despite the fact the make up of people is probably very similar or nearly the same. You're also open to more unnecessary criticism and unstructured feedback too, so it seems.

I think Facebook demands a different level of input and output with one line replies and quotes, whereas in a forum you're more likely to feedback more useful findings and facts in a larger and properly structured post. Just IMHO from what I've gauged comparing the two

For me personally, FB would never match the level of learning and information you can find/gain compared to something like this sorta gaff  :drinking:
You're exactly right, the level on answers on Facebook are nothing compared to what I have received on this forum. Some people have laughed at some of the questions that I've asked on Facebook and I've had nothing but helpful answers on this forum even though I'm fairly new with many answers that still need answering.

i was waiting for someone to comment  yeah what a low life that was but not my fault as the prat did say they fit the mk5 gti when I asked.

Got a K04 at a bargain and this time I went to see it first hand at the sellers home who upgraded to TTE so can't fault everyone. Got my R8 coils off there too where as here you get good deals sometimes and other times people say they'll be happy to keep the part for you for a couple of days and sell it off the next.

This is still the first place I check when I fire up the interweb.....

The forums (especially this one) are still the place for knowledge/discussion on thier particluar subject. Many google searches on specific information (related to the Mk5 platform etc etc) still brings you back here due to that depth of knowledge.......you don't get that with Facebook.  :angry015:

Personnally I find the Mk5 Facebook groups can be very childish but that's to be expected as the cars are now cheap and kids can afford to buy them now. True, if you're after a quick answer and can't be arsed (or don't know how to navigate a forum's library) then you're at the right place.

Most importantly (or more importantly) this forum, in particular, is about the people as much as the information. Some great peeps on here that I just don't find on Faceache, snapcrap, instash*t or twatter.

Ohh and I'm old and I'm stuck in my ways....ill be here (still pontificating) when the forum closes the doors and turn off lights.

Would it be an idea to look at updating the theme of the forum to a responsive/mobile friendly one?
