Milky gunk in pcv pipe, oil in hpfp
« on: November 22, 2016, 09:39:55 pm »
evening all.

Background.
2006 gti 66k .Car in a sort of limp mode after one minute of driving. no boost at all very sluggish. Rough idle. In the previous week i've thought i felt a sort of what feels like a miss-fire when accelerating swiftly. Like a total power cut for a millisecond but then back to normal. This happened randomly, like once every second day or so. Battery also died about this time but i assume this is unrelated. Then one day this limp mode appeared. No lights on dash.

Scanned with cheap code reader and came up with p2293. I couldn't find exactly what this meant. But something to do with fuel pressure. When i removed hpfp to check cam follower, the spring of the fuel pump was covered in oil, as was the follower. There was also a pool of oil in there, not just a little. when removing the pump i had to move the thicker pcv pipe on the right out the way to get in at the banjo bolt. as i did this it snapped and it was full of milky gunk. Also got a little under the oil cap but i thought that was normal with short journeys.

within the last 10k ive changed the pcv, dv and coilpacks to cure a running issue similar to this before. Is it possible one has gone again within this short time?  i also must have a bit of an oil leak as there is a spray around the general hpfp pcv area hence me wondering if pcv is faulty again. Ive not drove the car, but before i checked the fuel pump i started the car and it came up with the oil STOP message. check oil, fine. Started car again and it came up check coolant on the dash. Coolant also looks fine.

Anyone got any ideas? Seems more serious than just pcv valve :/ Trying to scope if i can fix this by myself. Dont want to start changing parts if something serious is wrong i.e head gasket?

If anyone could provide some insight id be truly grateful!

Thank you in advance.

The oil on the hpfp and the puddle in the cam chain cover is normal. You want that bit swimming in oil - that's what stops it from going bang.

Cant really comment on the PCV milkyness...

The oil stop message can be a serious one, and I wouldn't want to start it again until you have solved the problem.

Right thank you i can put my pump back on!

With the pcv, what is the thicker pipe on the right called? Not the one that runs to intake manifold. Ill post pictures when im home from work.

The one that runs down to the block? Not sure what it is called. Be careful with it as they can be brittle.

For a proper explanation of the PCV have a read here
