Here is a previous project where I was told a 2.5" exhaust and factory airbox would be a really bad idea, but was actually a very epic machine indeed! Really miss it actually, it was bonkers fast
Younger viewers may not recognise the car, but it's a Corrado VR6, and the turbo is a GT35R, which is a superb turbo for reliability, spool and sheer grunt.

Dude
What a beast! Is that a chargecooler I see? That must have been outstanding!!
A lot of work (and money
) just there in that engine bay
I had a Corrado VR6 in 1998! Yes, I am that old. It was an awesome car. It was the dark purple colour
Unfortunately I ran out of talent on a mountain one day and bent it. Badly
Complete write off. But.... Myself and my passenger were unhurt so that's really all that matters
Rock on with your 420 dude.....
My dream is to end up TTE420 on my current MK5. Probably take me a couple of years to get there. At which point I'll hopefully be able to afford a 5 year old MK7 R to which I will immediately fit a TTE580

That certainly is a chargecooler

Haha I'm old too! It must be getting on for 10 years ago now that I started project VR6 Turbo...... jeez, where does the time go?! These were the days before high output TFSI, so proper old school engineering

Yeah lots of money, blood, sweat and tears went into that bad boy. Forged pistons, big valve head (Inconel exhaust valves), DTA S80 standalone ECU, Mazda RX8 injectors, and loads of other stuff. Most of the stuff was sourced from America and Stealth 'VR6 experts' Racing built the block

It didn't start out with the factory airbox etc, I later evolved it to that because I'm not a fan of induction roar or droney exhausts. It was a proper stealth wagon and surprised a LOT of people, especially as it had a weedy 2.5" single tailpipe and no stickers or badges

I miss how it drove and it's power delivery. I guess I'm trying to recreate that sensation in my Ed30 with the TTE420.
Shame you bent yours! The Corrado is the only VW I've ever properly fallen for

Just something about them!
A TTE580 MK7 will be fun

I think by the time I get there, electric cars will have taken over and petrol banned
