Clutch change
« on: November 27, 2016, 10:26:35 am »
VW gave me an advisory for a clutch change due to saying ny clutch is heavy but i dont seem to think it needs a change. Whats the best way to tell if the clutch is on its way out ?

When it's heavy

Seriously though, beyond half worn the pedal starts to get heavy because the pressure plate springs needs to be pushed further to release the friction plate.  So whilst it may not be noticeably slipping, it is on it's way out unfortunately.

A clutch and flywheel will cost best part of £350 for LUK items (including CSC and new bolts for the DMF).

VW will always be more, but a quote of £350 will be the clutch only without the DMF..... Foolish to not change the DMF as it will no doubt be heavily worn

Sorry for the Hijack OP :innocent:

Dan, I see your Cardiff way - do you have a trusted independent that you use - or could recommend?  I'm in Bridgend so Cardiff is easy enough.

Cheers

Paul

Have a look on Eurocarparts because you will faint when you hear what VW want for a DMF.
