North East Alloy Refurb
« on: November 22, 2010, 08:58:53 am »
Fellas,
I'm hoping someone might be able to help.  I've got 18" genuine monza II's on my Gti.  Before a got the car the independent dealer had them refurbed and power coated.  I'm looking into getting them diamond cut back to how they should be but cannot find a company in either Newcastle or Sunderland who can do this.  I've been in touch with the Wheel Specialist in Newcastle who informed me that the closest company was in Milton Keynes but that's too far.  Does anyone know of a company closer and what the approx cost for a set of 4 would be?

Cheers in advance

dont think there is anyone up this way unfortunately, we send all of our stuff to the wheel specialist in Newcastle but as you have found, they dont offer this service.

maybe sending them away and getting some temporary wheels is the best way forward.

How have you found The Wheel Specialist do they do a good job?  I need both the fronts done will they be able to match or should I get them to swap tryes so the refurbed ones are on the same side of the car.

hi

yes SEM at sunderland do a top job, had mine done last year just over £200, plus they lent me a set of wheels whilst mine were getting refurbed.

You can also choose colour of insert, i went for gloss black aka mk6 style

Hi Stumk5
Have your wheels been diamond cut at SEM?  How long did it take?

They look like they've done a good job I've heard about SEM but have heard mixed reviews.  Might give them a call and see what they say.  Where abouts in Sunderland are they?

Cheers

I see a lot of customers that are car fans, get very mixed reviews about their work, it seems people are delighted or very dissapointed.

SEM are just off hylton road, opposite the hylton college.

Hi PDT
Have you had any experience of SEM good or bad?

hi yes the wheels were diamond cut at sem, it took about four days. I could not fault them on service and quality they fitted some of my own tyres also as I did not want some cowboy chipping my nice alloys. Sem was very busy when I was there and the quality of the other wheels looked good also. Not many places in the north east do diamond cut most of the ones I called tried to gets to powder coat them, no thanks.
