Rear Valance replacement advice please
« on: December 01, 2016, 01:21:08 pm »
Hey,

I am thinking of swapping out my GTi rear valance to a color coded one I have at home. Current GTi valance has some nasty scrapes courtesy of the previous owner and I picked up the color coded one for free. Pictured below

However there is no exhaust cut out in it. Has anyone any advice on cutting out a hole for the exhaust please? I have access to a pneumatic angle grinder and most tools imaginable.

Also what are peoples thoughts on the above valance fitted to the GTi? Any pics to share?

In the future I would like to get a ED30 Black rear but do not have the funds at the moment.

Any help/advice appreciated

It looks like a standard mk5 bumper to me, off a 1.4 or something. I personally wouldn't bother with it. In all likelihood it'd still look a bit odd even if you managed a neat job with the cutout.

Two other options are finding a colour coded GTI bottom half (I sold one for 70 quid iirc) or get your scraped one tidied up and colour coded.

For what it's worth get yourself a ed30 replica or genuine one with cut out  :happy2:

The top half of mine was particularly bad with some serious scrapes down into the plastic and cracks under the rear left brake light, have replaced it with the above top half at the moment.

I could possibly sell on the old top and the bottom piece I received and put the cash towards an ED30!

Thanks for your input!

Fingers crossed in the new year, shipping to Ireland is damn pricey!

Thanks

No probs. Just keep your eye out on ebay etc, I picked up a complete R32 rear for £150. And also have the top half of that to get rid of!
