What audio format for RNS?
« on: January 25, 2010, 09:05:05 pm »
I got my RNS fitted at lunch time and have just created a cd from my itunes library, to upload the songs to the HDD. However, it didnt quite go to plan.

I assume the MP4 format itunes songs come in arent compatible with the RNS?

Is there any easy way for me to get the songs onto the HDD?!

Cheers ollie. Im now in the middle of the most depressing job ever though- converting them all then dragging each song out and into a seperate folder of solely mp3's!

If you highlight all the songs, click convert to MP3.
iTunes will do it all. It takes a while but no need to keep clicking. Once they are done (the itunes format versions will still be highlighted) right click delete. This means your whole itunes is mp3. Then go into music folder, itunes and drag the whole folder across to your SD card.
Thats how I do it anyway!

I've tried that Ollie and mine only gives me the option to convert to AAC which still doesn't work?

You need to go into setting and change it so it converts to MP3. Give me a sec and ill have a look on there for you.  :happy2:

ACC wont work as it is the apple copyright encoding I believe.

Edit - Preferences - General - Import settings - Import using - Select MP3 Encoder.  :happy2:

When you do this it will allow you to convert to MP3's instead of ACC.

Ollie, i could do it that way, but im putting all the songs in the neccessary folders (rap, rock, dance etc) so it will save organising them into folders when i put them onto the RNS

^ I see.

I have them set on my RNS as = HDD - Artist - Album - Song.

So it is just straight of itunes in the preset folders. Saves messing around.

You know you can set the music into genres on itunes. You may be able to copy it this way. I am not sure as I have never tried.

Ive been used to having my songs organised in those playlists on my ipod in the car, so i dont think i could cope if they were just in 1 large folder!

It took me 3 hours last night to get up to "E" sorted!

Also, i was hoping to beable to copy a good lot of songs to the HDD this morning on my way to work (5 minute journey). It only got 2 in this time though. Is that the normal speed?

It could be 2011 before i get them all transferred at this rate!

You need to go the long way round to work

That's about the normal speed, its slightly faster if you listen to the radio while its copying as the hdd doesn't have to keep moving the heads to different positions

Lol, id love to take the long way to work- i dont even have enough time to let the turbo heat up for a blast!

1 other thing ive noticed, theres a very very faint noise coming from the RNS when i unlock the car and get in. Im not sure if its related to the unlocking and entering of the car, or if its something thats been going since i was last in the car? Im not talking 15 minutes since being in the last time either!
