will a catback milltek exhaust for the edition 30 fit a normal gti?

Hi Guys
About to purchase a milltek exhasut cat back for an edition 30, but its going to be fitted to my normal/standard gti.

Will it fit?

The only difference i can tell is the 80mm exhaust tips on the edition 30 catback, whereas the milltek gti catback has 76mm exhaust tips?

Will the milltek edition 30 exhaust tips fit through/in the standard golf gti rear valance/bumper?

Yes it will fit fine 

IMHO the ED30 pipes are way better than the standard Milltek GTI's anyway

....Way better in appearance? But I would question whether way better in maintenance as the Milltek pipework is high grade stainless steel, or is the oem Ed30 also stainless steel?

You can buy various style exhaust tips from Milltek if you don't like the usual style.

^^^ You miss interpreted my post Robin, what I mean is the Milltek Edition 30 80mm Jet tail pipes look way better than the cheap bolt-on Milltek tailpipes for the standard GTI version of the Milltek system.

From my personal experience I would say the quality of the VW OEM tailpipe is far superior to that of the Milltek ones.

Aha, now I understand your post - Thanks, Steve.

I personally found the VW OEM tips much more difficult to clean than the Millteks but perhaps I let the OEM ones get too dirty etc before having a go. Silver exhaust tips need cleaning very often - Too often for me.

x2.  The Milly tips seem to tarnish very easily.  Must be something to do with the polishing process..............

..........................................................................I am glad that someone else has seen the at times dubious quality.  Please use the search button.  Milltek at MK4 guise were fine, been there done that.

....What I don't understand is how TIG welds and stainless steel rusts. Downpipe brackets certainly have been a problem (including once on mine) but Milltek have done things to reduce that problem some time ago. A remapped car on OEM engine mounts is more prone to the kind of movements which can cause breakages and that is why a poly torque arm insert is included with each new exhaust system.

Tarnishing is perhaps inevitable considering the heat temperatures stainless steel exhausts endure, but surely tarnishing is far more acceptable than the rust an OEM system might suffer from.

Eitherway, each of us has different expectations and I can only say that I have had several years of good experience of Milltek exhaust systems and the performance and sound far outweighs the problems.

to me when a company supply you with a engine mount due to the exhuast getting damaged is a complete kop out . the problem lys with the design . have you heard of and oe systems breaking ? i have heard of none . if you pay 1200 quid for a exhuast you would expect it to be the bee knees . i have used alot of systems on a lot of cars and not seen these problems before . ibut i admitt the performance is good from millteks . but i doubt if i would ever buy another . i would have a jetex or blueflame .

My exhaust is TIG welded, this is best weld and most corrosion resistance if done well.  However being open to the elements will eventually cause some corrosion on the welds, even if the weld was done correctly. The welding operation changes the material properties during the process.

Also if the area was not cleaned sufficiently, or even ground using a grinder that was used on mild steel previously, then corrosion will occur.
