Factory fitted Cruise Control issues
« on: December 20, 2016, 11:25:54 pm »
Hi All,

I have an odd problem with my factory fitted cruise control, wanted to tap into the wealth of knowledge on here.
My cruise control doesnt work, i cleaned the contacts on the chip in cruise stalk, no luck, i then replaced the stalk, still no luck. My brake pedal switch seems fine, no brake lights sticking.
Lastly, ive checked vag com, i get zero codes relating to brake light switch, clutch switch or cruise itself. Im aware there is no fuses for cruise, so im stumped. Any ideas?

Have you checked in the measuring blocks using vcds that the switch works when pressing the buttons. The A version of the cruise stalks are known to go faulty.

Thanks for the reply, how do i go about doing that? Although i have vag com, (original cable!) i have no idea what im doing with it, aside from bringing up fault codes.
I did replace the stalk with another, only time i got a code relating to the stalk is when i removed the chip from the inside of the stalk to clean the contacts.
Both stalks i have are version A, the original and the replacement.

Has it ever worked? Is your car DSG or has MFSW? What year is it?
Can you read faults for the steering controller and paste here so we can check the coding?
E.g:
Code: [Select]
Address 16: Steering wheel        Labels: 1K0-953-549-MY8.lbl
   Part No SW: 1K0 953 549 BN    HW: 1K0 953 549 BN
   Component: J0527           752 0100
   Coding: 0000012
   Shop #: WSC 01279 785 00200
   VCID: 7F0DE5772E08A7E6ED9-802A

No fault code found.

And here's a list of the cruise measuring blocks and what to check: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Checking_Cruise_Control_using_Measuring_Values

As above has it ever worked.

If it has before and you have checked the contacts and replaced the stalk then does the CC icon appear on the Dash when switch CC on. If not the check you have activated CC in VCDS.

If it does check your 16- Steering Module code as it may have for some reason reset.

Have you changed anything recently on the car

Hi,
Thanks for the replies! Greatly appreciated. Its a 56 plate, manual.
Thats what i got the last time i checked, im not at the car atm, so if thats not what you need to see, ill follow the instructions in the link.

Address 16: Steering wheel        Labels: 1K0-953-549-MY8.lbl
   Part No SW: 1K0 953 549 BC    HW: 1K0 953 549 BC
   Component: Lenksäulenmodul 035 0070
   Coding: 0000042
   Shop #: WSC 01279 785 00200
   VCID: 74E187261777BFE2BA-8020

No fault code found.

The cruise symbol does not appear on the dash.
I have had a few Golfs before (mk5s), so i know im not doing anything differently in terms of operating it.
I stupidly didnt take a picture of the steering module, (that the angle sensor right?) if so i would have to strip it to get to it again to see the part number.
The car has had no work done, currently a parking sensor doesnt work and a front park light bulb is out and thats it.

Go into the steering module, go into measuring blocks, keep pressing up on the channels until you get to cruise stalk info. It will tell u what happens when u press the buttons if they work or not.

Have u codes it in the engine control module and in the steering wheel control module?

Looks like it's coded properly, and according to this page it might work with the coding.

If the cruise used to work, check the measuring blocks for more info. If you've never had it working there's loads more things to check like the extra wire that might need to be run, engine coding, steering module versions, etc

56 plate will have the wire fitted so that can be ruled out.

So that part number is the Midline model so fine for Cruise

Maybe already have but you have checked the Cruise Control option is ticked in VCDS and what the code entered for steering wheel option is?

Hi All,
Once again, thank you all for the responses. Ive been working some pretty ridiculous shifts, today is literally the only day off ive got/had!
Ok, so ive plugged in Vag Com.
Went into the steering wheel module, went onto  the measuring blocks.. i clicked on 'up' to get to CCS.
I have taken pictures put i dont know how to upload it on here as im using my phone.

In the measuring blocks theres 4 boxes.

The first 2 blocks labelled as 'Main Switch' and the other is CCS - Set.
The other 2 blocks dont have a label.

So when Cruise is OFF

The blocks read as follows:

Main Switch: OFF

CCS-SET: Not Oper.

Unlabelled box: N/A

Unlabelled box: N/A

So when Cruise is ON

The blocks read as follows:

Main Switch: ON

CCS-SET: Not Oper.

Unlabelled box: N/A

Unlabelled box: N/A

So it seems to me it registers it coming on, but i dont really know why it is not working!

Hi All,
Got it working!! :)
Just to give closure to this, as i hate when people start a post and when they solve the issue they dont post how and just disappear!!
If it weren't for you guys id have never known how to solve it!
So i followed this:

2) Control modules using Long Coding are activated in the Coding. Due to different Control Modules Vehicle Equipment, the actual Coding Table is not shown here but will automatically be used by the Long Coding Helper with VCDS.
Address 01: Engine (CBF)       Labels: 06J-907-115-CBF.clb
  Part No SW: 1K0 907 115 AL    HW: 1K0 907 115 AK
  Component: 2.0l R4/4V TFSI     0030
  Revision: E3H21---    Serial number:
  Coding: 040301081C070160
Activating Cruise Control on a new (DBW) ECU using Long Coding
[Select]
[01 - Engine]
[Coding - 07]
[Long Coding Helper]
Check the box for CCS and Exit
[Do It!]

Note:

You may have to cycle the key off and back on before the CCS is activated and the new coding takes effect.
The Throttle Body Alignment (TBA) may need to be completed before CCS operates.
Long Coded modules do Not have the letter G in the component field. If you wanted to see if CCS is enabled, use the Long Coding Helper and see if the box is checked.

Taken from the ross tech website which ' mikezs' suggested! (Thank You!)

Note, you have to switch the cruise on then do it. I also switched vag com off and on too. As initially it werent accepting the new long code!
I've gone for a drive in it and its all working!! Thank you very much for your help people!!

Just needed the engine coding to enable cruise :)

Glad you got it sorted
