MPG indicator

Recently bought ED30 (56 plate) and have just noticed that the mpg indicator is going haywire! it goes all the way up to about 195 and down to not registering (--- is displayed) and anything in between and isn't comparative to any speed I am going. any ideas would be greatly appreciated as although its not engine related its driving me mad!

You've probably got it set to instant mpg rather than average mpg.
