Labour Cost & Job Durations
« on: January 26, 2010, 01:26:57 pm »
I have several jobs I need completed before I MoT my car next month.

Is anyone on here close enough to a VAG tech to ask them how long these jobs should take and hence, cost?

1) Remove & replace Front Discs & Pads,
2) Remove & replace Rear Discs & Pads,
3) Remove Diverter Valve & replace (Potential DIY),
4) Remove PCV & replace.

Cheers.

none of them are over technical or long jobs, maybe a couple of hours at most if they ramp the car?

off ramp, maybe another hour on top depending on how enthusiastic they are i guess

a quick call to your dealership will get you the hourly rate + VAT  :happy2:

When I asked my dealer about fitting dics and pads for me If I supplied them I was told that it was £150 for the labour element alone.

So say they take three hours at  £41.25 per hour (normal is £35-£45 per hour) that comes to £123.75, VAT = £26.25 (@ 17.5%) equals your £150

That's a decent hourly rate .... depending on whether the car is in warrenty or not i think my local Dealers hourly rate is around the £70-£80 mark  :scared:

£41.25/hour?! :scared:  It's worth me driving to Cornwall just to get that sort of hourly rate at a main dealer! They're all around £90-95/hour here!

....

Generally the SouthWest, and especially Cornwall, has much higher rates of unemployment and less jobs available, hence the cheaper rates.

If your car is still under warranty I wouldn't consider going anywhere else other than a VW dealer. Like you, I also have zero mechanic skills and therefore stay away from DIY which also shifts legal responsibilities. There are some here who are mechanics/technicians/engineers who do this kind of work daily for a living and therefore are totally capable of DIY and saving themselves some money but they tend to forget that some of us have different skills instead.
