Replacement audio unit
« on: January 01, 2017, 12:01:08 pm »
Hi

Does anyone have any suggestions on replacing my standard audio unit?
Ideally I want one that is just plug in and play as my knowledge of wiring is crap.
It needs to have cd player,bluetooth but I dont need DAB, any other features will be a bonus.
I have tried to look through all other postings but just got confused.
Any advice will be helpful.

Thanks

The basic RCD 330 pretty much covers what you need, it has a CD player, Built-In Bluetooth and Mic, AUX, SD Card and USB connectivity all in one unit and is plug and play in our MK5's. Though if you can live without the CD Player you can opt for the RCD 330 Plus which effectively is the same but loses the CD mech in place of a much bigger 6.5" touchscreen and is a better value proposition in my opinion (link for RCD 330 Plus). Regardless whichever model you choose both are available for less than £100, the next best OEM alternative is the RNS315 but they usually go for around £200+.

Either way you will need to update the Canbus Gateway module to prevent battery drain on these newer OEM units and have a dual FAKRA to Antenna cable adapter for the radio. Some indy's can code and install the brand new canbus gateway if you have difficulty doing this, the module itself can be obtained for about £20 uncoded (link for updated 7N0 Canbus Gateway).

@PatchySan - sorry to torture but can't seem to PM as I'm a n00b.

Do you have a link to the dual FAKRA to Antenna cable adapter? Is there any how to guides for updating the Canbus Gateway module?

Thanks
