Timing cam locking tool
« on: January 02, 2017, 01:04:57 pm »
Would someone kindly borrow me a timing locking tool if they have one so I can do my timing belt and water pump?. Or can I get away without using one as I did a Audi 1.6 New Years.

Thanks

Twice I watched my VW tech use zip-ties when working on mine strapping the cams to the head. I now wish I had gotten vid of the process because it was a slick trick...and he stated the tool is a "Tool".

Thanks for your reply @ROH ECHT
I wished you had made a video as I rarely use the tools when doing cam belt jobs and have never had an issue yet. Just don't want to damage the tfsi as this will be the first one I've ever repaced.

Locking tool for changing the cam belt? Just use the timing marks. I did have a cam locking tool used for the chain but a member borrowed them and not had them back.

lol I've figured I can do it the same as I did the A3 1.6 on New Year's Day  :signLOL:

Exactly the same principle using the timing marks as dazza said thanks  :happy2:

I think pesky used it and damaged it  then got it welded and went off to its new temporary home

Oi its not like I dropped them or something, I just tried to use it as it was designed to be used, and the pins bent! It worked fine after welding, I assume worked fine for tommy as well? If anything you might say I improved the tool  :signLOL:

Pins bent because the force required to release the adjustor bolt was greater than the resistance of the pins. Simples :)

Be interesting to know if @tommygti used the tool and how he got on.

@ducman77 do you have the original tool to remove the bolt?
