Ryan's Black Golf mk5 GTI
« on: January 02, 2017, 07:32:03 pm »
New to posting here, have been a member for some time. Had the car from Jan 2014 and never got round to putting it up on here - to busy looking at everybody else's!

Got it for a good price with good spec and low enough miles, 63K and full service history so was very pleased.

18" monza
Heated leather seats
Auto lights
6 speed manual
Highline computer
Climate control

I have done quite a lot to the car in the 2 years so i will try remember the majority! Cars now on 90K have got plenty of fun out of it  :happy2:

List of mods so far:

- All LED inside cabin
- Rear Seats Removed + Parcel Shelf

Haven't took a lot of pictures as i had no intention of having a timeline lol will try and piece together what i have!

Forgive the picture have none from sitting stock when i bought it.

Had to replace the DV with a piston version as the diaphragm was ripped, difference was mad after!

Had to replace the two separate thermostats as the car wasn't heating up to temp

Replaced cam follower & spark plugs BKR7EIX. Did oil and filter change.

Got timing belt and water pump done within a few weeks of owning.

Tinted rear lights, painted rear badge

Rear 3 windows tinted very early on, removed the rear wiper. Added wind deflectors.

All interior lights replaced with LED same with sidelight bulbs, bright white bulbs replaced main beams.

Replaced intercooler hose gaskets as it was leaking boost, rocker cover gasket done too due to seeping.

Got a 42 draft design stealth catch can & PCV plate. Replaced PCV gasket.

Got an OMP steering wheel fitted & Newsouth Boost gauge

Newsouth boost gauge pipe being routed round the catch can! Also got a TT shorter shift linkage.

Replaced the DV again this time with a GFB DV+ felt much better on and off boost.

Wheels were tired looking and im a fan of darker colours, went for a dark BMW grey. Also did the calipers lime green

Bought pro sport damping adjustable coilovers, was happy enough with them ride wise as and they sat low enough for my liking, can still go lower.

Wings had seen better days, got them replaced on warranty from VW. Happy chap after!

Got a neuspeed air intake + heatshield so i can get rid of the stock engine cover!

Got a badgeless front grill and an S3 intercooler + some heavy duty clamps.

Got a BCS full system r32 style decat:
Its now a straight through with both silencers removed and sounds class lol

Got timing tools needed to do the timing chain as it was getting a bit of a rattle when up to temperature
Did the timing chain & tensioner, it wasnt very fun! car wouldn't run afterwards. Would start and die out, discovered i had broke the fuel sensor on the HPFP. Run like a dream once replaced!

Got the car colour coded, as i cant stand the fade old plastic. Everything looks much better painted!
Fitted open fog surrounds + lower rear r32 style bumper which was also colour coded.

Smoothed the reflectors out of the r32 bottom half:

Got Vibratechnics engine mounts cheap both engine and gearbox. Also did the subframe mount and dogbone.
Old engine mount:

Vibratechnic engine mount:

Gearbox old mount:

Vibratechnic gearbox mount:

Subframe mount:

Got the car stage 2 Revo remapped by TG performance in Bangor - Made 265 bhp and 323 ft.lbs torque. Pulls very well, also got a SPS switch for the maps: Dyno graph:

Some lovely person forced me off the road, bent my passenger strut and wrecked my wheel

Bought raceland coilovers and had to paint my wheels! went for the standard black that i used for colour coding and put a green pearl coat on top!

Bought R32 front calipers, braided lines and grooved discs all round

Window regulator decided to let go! All fun and games as usual

Bought H&R 28mm front and 26mm rear ARB's & VWR front bushes for the front control arms with superpro anti lift bushes!

Racelands were starting to knock and clunk - So i bought ST XTA coilovers with adjustable damping and top mount
picture of the dog on the box they came in, didnt think to take any of inside. Fitted these along with new ball joints and shorter drop links they came with.

Buckled my wheel so was an excuse to buy some alloys off ebay.

Some poke on the front

Paint on them was terrible so they needed painted! set about sanding them down to paint and polish the lips

Sanded down

Lip sanded to fine grand

Painted them in a nice custom grey that i had made up

Then it was time for more pearl coat! This one is majority gold and green with some silver, paint had a lot of silver in it so think it cancels a lot of the flake out.

Still need to finish them off 100% but they should look well!

Car got a well deserved bit of attention with a good clean: Started with a good dose of snow foam, 2 bucket clean with Autoglym shampoo and got it dried off. Used Autoglym super resin polish, Poorboys black hole then finished off with Poorboys Ex P sealant.
Need to get my hands on a DA doing it by hand is killer!

No problem at all! Just took it down they looked at it and I said I was aware on the rust issues on the arches and alot of cars have been replaced. Took paint readings and pictures and said they usually do it because its a well known issue!

This was last year so don't know what its like now!
