If you lift up the surround you'll see that the wire is connected to a lil connector, you just need to pry the lil clip on the connector inwards and pull gently. It may need a bit of persuasion but this goes without saying be careful you don't break it.
Mine was a bugger, I used a lil jewellers screwdriver carefully to help take it off. Good luck

So it just basically pulls out then unclip the wire, that's it?

How's it going Mitch, got mine off last night, no idea how to get the gaiter off so unclipped it.

I've taken all the rubbery black paint off and scoured the surface a little, got it on but got some annoying creases in it near the D button so will probably take it off and have another go.

The whole thing can be taken apart including the silver surround so you are left with only the black plate.

I just scotched mine, plastic primed it and painted it matt black. Looks factory fresh  :happy2:

Lol I struggled with them too at first

Hopefully it makes sense when I try and explain this

I used a sharp scalpel that fits into the hole and attacked them via the back. Cut an "X" into the hole first then insert the scalpel about half way from the back and cut in circular motion, almost like your trying to scrap the "side" of the hole....obviously have to take "gear indicator" thing off.

Takes a bit of patience and practice. Heat and sharp scalpel will be your best friends here!

Not a great pic in the car but you get the idea, a lot easier with a set of craft blades :signLOL: :signLOL:
