The end of VW warranty

Evening all,

Its approaching that time when my Volkswagen warranty will come to an end - 4th of March to be exact.

Can anyone offer any advice on what I should be doing in the run up to this fateful day?

For example, should I be nit picking at every little problem and reporting it to VW?

It cant do any harm to see if the will fix any niggles.

Good point there VC thanks for bringing this up, I'd hadnt though of taking up a warranty extension.

I see theres a quite a long list of exclusions on the VW website for their 3years and older cars. Bit of research to do I think.

you need to renew before you expire if you stay with VW else they will charge you stupid money to 'check' the car before they issue another one... even if its the same garage that previously maintained your car

dont rule out aftermarket companies either, i can recommend warrantiesdirect, they give you quite a detailed policy list to choose from and offer the choice of independent repair or VW repair policies too

Dave, i have 5 days VW warranty remaining 

MOT passed , had one advisory of having a Magic tree hanging from my rear view mirror

My Dsg and mechatronics have been faultless, so fingers crossed, thats my only worry. I havent got the bottle to remap my DSG incase it goes

I guess its just finding the right dealer, a few people on here, have for instance taken a Monza back with white worm and they have just changed all 4 for them no questions.  I think i am right in saying that the dealer charges VW for the labour so it may be in their interest to do the work.

surprised by some the exclusions in the VW warranty tbh

no limit to the number of claims that can be made however, a claim limit of £1,000 inclusive of VAT per claim applies for Named Components

If the fault causing the part failure existed before the Warranty came into affect, the Warranty will not pay for the repair.

Well its booked in and I've listed about 6 niggles I have with the car currently.

Atleast if these parts fail further down the line, I can state that this was brought to their attention during the warranty period.

£400 a time I believe 182.

I just came across this thread as was going to do a very similar one.
Mines up for renewal in May and I've used the warranty on five different occasions including today.

Only memorable things were a turbo valve and a manifold flap replaced.
Today was the first time they washed it, ever. I don't use any detailing products so it actually did me a favour 

I wanted to ask if it's worth renewing at all?

My 3door 06 plate is a Ko3 GTI, cam-belt has been done, oil changed every 8k miles since 50k. Mileage is now 65,700.
I couldn't think of much that's highly likely to go shortly (based on chance/probability) that's worth £400? Not that it can be predicted  I have a trust worthy reliable Porsche/VW/Audi specialist who does all my work, therefore I'm questioning if I'll ever get £400 value from it? I haven't so far, but the car's getting older etc...

nottingham vw told me 300 plus a year  so i didnt bother

I didnt bother with the extended warranty in the end. The dealership also blagged their way out of all 6 niggles I had with the car.

My air con pump seized on the M6 at 85 (70 officer honest) destroyed the pump and threw all the bits into the system, easily cost me £500 for all the new bits I needed and was 4 months out of warranty, then the loom went on the door, central locking, mirrors, window etc not working, another £300 6 months out of warranty (apparently this is extremely rare??), just had wheel bearing done (in warranty) on my other Golf (ed30) so would it have been worth if for me - def yes!. Now 1st synchro is crunching, on the GTI so wish i had gone extended warranty. But still not sure if i will extend next sumer when ed30 comes to 3 years ...... ??
